One year later. I built my daughter a highwall that would be easier to shoot than the Hepburn.  Cocking on opening, better extraction and some camming action.  I was originally going to do it in 40-60 Maynard but ended up going with the 40-65.  It seemed to work pretty well as she got a 7 on the postage stamp and an 8 pin on the diamond.  She fit right in. I shot on the next relay, and loved her million dollar smile after she got her 8 pin.

Very nice shooting, congratulations again.

Brian, glad to see that you got back to Pennsylvania, OK. Our group at the Restwel has changed over the years and I'm glad you have become part of it. Bob

Thanks Bob on both counts.

I truly enjoyed the after shooting camaraderie with you and the rest of the group, and desserts.

In a HiWall, I shoot only the 320gr Ideal 375166 with black powder.  I can have consistent accuracy out to 500 meter but past that ONLY with light wind under 10 mph and a lot of misses can I hit a 42"x82" steel Buffalo target at 1000yds

Distances are in yards.
Bullets cast out at 250 grains from a Lyman mold #380681.
16.2 grains of 2400 in Starline long cases(2.125).
MVA buffalo soule sight used that was ‘borrowed’ from my
Pedersoli 1874 sharps.

Old-Win,   I can’t believe I missed the opportunity to have Grumpy introduce us. Maybe next year.   You might not recall but you sent me a couple original Ideal Postell bullets while I was working on a scaled down and slightly modified version for my Ballard.    I actually shot the results of that effort at this year’s Q.    Would have liked to thank you in person!

Best Regards,
John

I do remember, in fact I've been waiting for a report from you on how they've been working. Did they do well at the Q? Did you shoot that Ballard this year and win the high Ballard award? If, so then I saw you there and you were probably a relay or two behind us.
Highwall55, yes, we miss Jim and Dave at the Restwel.  They are great guys and it's hell when age catches up with us and we can't make the trip anymore. Bob

Dang Bob - sorry if I never reported back.   Gave Kurt some reports and bet I thought I copied you in.   My bad!!

They are shooting well.   Turned out about 487gr.   BACo even added to their catalogue.

I shot it at Lone Tree as well.    Tied for 6th there in a pretty difficult venue.    Richie Tilton took 1st at that one.

Grumpy and I spotted for each other at the Q this year.   He got the better end of that deal with my eyes.   I shot maybe over my head a bit with those bullets.   Scored a 38 and came out 15th overall I believe.    I was shooting a different load with that bullet in BPCR and think I improved on that load for the Q.   Also had a real good week with my eyes.    We’ll see if I can keep that up.    Gonna drive and meet Grumpy in Cheyenne next month and see how we fare.

I really like the bullet.   Not sure its the best but windage tracked almost exact with a fella we shot with, Steve Farringer who came in 4th overall, using a 545gr Money style bullet for a score of 41.   I blew two eight pins (just got one on the 600yd) and missed two on the Buffalo not realizing a lull in the wind, then over compensating on the next shot.   So I had three more misses than Steve.

I really liked that Sharps bullet you sent too.

Well, if we are there next year I’ll be sure and not miss the opportunity again.    Did get to talk with Kurt a couple times.

I always enjoy that week.   Even if I don’t always shoot that well.
John

Well, good going. I'm glad that bullet design of the original Postell is working for you. Steve and Brian both stay at the Restwel.  I met Steve this spring at Lodi and we had breakfast together.  He's become a heck of a shot in a short time.  See you next year.
