How many here would like to see pictures posted of this unique breech seater? I know that I would!

Would 40_rod be willing to do that for us?

If you have an older Journal it was pictured in his sales ad as well as his re-de capper.

There are good pictures in the current journal, and if you are not a member, you should consider being one. Also, I believe it is covered in an article John Dutcher authured back in the 80s. I will try to look it up. If memory serves, some person made up parts to assemble one, and some were sold. It is a very neat tool, and I was able to fiddle with one back in the dark ages.

rkba2nd,
If your asking me, if I'm a member, yes, I am.

I did see it in the Journal and that's why I'm asking for pictures. The journal picture is a distant one, with no detail.

Yes, it looks like a "very neat tool" and that is why I'd like to see detailed pictures, if possible. It might also help with interest in the auction.

I agree !

On my way to being a "full" member, it will depend on the post office when it happens.  Smiley

I guess , just a general question, not directed to any one person. Perhaps if we had more members associated with this website, we could see improvements to the association and an increase in interest from those outside of the single shot arena. I have seen on this site dissatisfaction with the Journal, but that is "not" what we pay the dues for. With an increase  in membership, it might attract people capable of writing good, interesting, informative articles. As someone suggested, reprints of old articles, not easily available to new or younger members or users, would be more than welcome. I'm not sure what is involved in getting permission to reprint such, but it can't be that difficult. I know I have a fairly extensive library, as I'm sure others of us do, and would be glad to provide copies to those interested.   Krag

Back when the Journal was having some issues there were several old articles included and if they were to be published again they would probably be what must of us here already have.

I was not refering to articles written for the Journal. There is a huge depository of information that could be made available. As an example, JVK Wagar wrote a number of pieces for the American Rifleman, that were based on his personal experiences with a large number of single shot rifles. They were extremely well written, and very informative. I was fortunate to visit the man with John Dutcher, who had known Mr. Wagar for quite some time. I believe he was in his 80s at that time, but still very articulate, and had aquired a vast amount "collection" of items relating to, not only single shots, but other firearms as well. A cordial gentleman, and a pleasure to visit with. His home was in Ft. Collins, Colorado. This would be just one example of past articles that could be available for reprinting, enough to fill each quarterly issue with very good first hand information. It is tue that a lot of us, in our later years, are privy to this information, but the younger people that we would like to, bring into the fold as it were, are probably not even aware of most of most of the articles I am refering to. Enough said, I need to retire, to get up and to the range before the prairie winds pick up! Krag

I'm not young, but have a great interest in Single shots and the shooting and science of making them work the way the masters made them work, so those type of articles would definitely be of interest.

Unfortunatly the only photos that I have of the seater up close are blurry. I tried to isolate it from the larger photo but by the time i blew it up enough it pixilated and you couldnt tell if it was a breech seater or a dust kitten under the bed.
I can tell you the seater was stamped King ( the original owner of the rifle) But wether it is kings work of someone else I dont know. It has a dowel pin that fits into a shoe mounted to the rear sight holes on the action. It is a little big and clunky but i belive i could seat a 45 caliber round into that 38 bore with it.
I can tell you also that when I saw it the first thing I thought was "why didn't I think of that".

40_rod,
Thank you for the additional info.

Is it isolated somewhere, so that pictures can't be taken of it?
