Notice the large double  rifle at the outside of the JP Lower
business location in Denver. The sights indicate a hammer
double rifle model not a shotgun. Or a duck -goose market gun.
I currently own an 1878 Sharps Borchardt military rifle in 45 2.1 in.

Lower is pictured in F. Sellers Sharps book firing 50 consecutive shots from an 1878 at 200 yards. The 7th Cavalry could have used these-or Spencer carbines-at the Little Big Horn...two years earlier.

In the late 90s through 1920s, gentleman wore ties and/or suits
virtually outside everywhere in cities or towns. Farmers and blue collar workers were excused, except the workers at Colt, Winchester, Parker Bros where at least ties were worn with white shirts and aprons.

My guess would be blankets and maybe decorative beads? Maybe hunting knives too?

Back in the eighties my son and I were driving home from Moab. We stopped at a little rest area way out in the middle of nowhere. An indian squaw and two little kids appeared from nowhere. She showed me a beautiful indian style necklace and it was truly beautiful so I decided to buy it for my wife. The wife was mad when I left and seems she was mad when I got home. She did not like the necklace.
I don't know where that squaw came from because we were way out in the middle of nowhere. I never saw a camper or a teepee or anything. Looked like a squaw right out of a movie.

Wes, native Americans really take offense at the word "squaw". The lady was probably Navajo (they call themselves "Dine" = the People) and I'll bet it was a beautiful silver and turquoise "squash blossom" necklace (whose value has greatly increased lately). She probably did live "out in the middle of nowhere" nearby in a comfortable hogan on the largest and most populous "reservation" in America (larger than 10 US states and the size of West Virginia).

My best friend is a Paiute and if in the coloquial manner or in good-humored speech, he take no offense at words like that. I've even heard him use a good number of the words that the uppity whities say offend them. We worked for twenty years, and hunted and fished as well, with my 'colorful' dialog. Never one time an argument or other. They, like some other folks come in all flavors. Best friend forever, he is. Nuff said.
