it looks like the lever, the hand rest and the muzzle plug are different?

Here's the flip side, it looks like he added a higher comb, a Winchester scope as well as some iron sights.

Both guns appear to use a #6 Ballard lever, but the old group photo appears to have the lever adapter more forward on the lever, where the other images show it back further? Wonder if he changed his hold position, so relocated the adapter position?

Yes the black and white picture shows a muzzle plug on the end instead of the starter on it. I've seen those wooden muzzle plugs used by some muzzleloader shooters and collectors to keep dirt out between uses. I have an old friend who has a huge collection of old muzzleloader rifles and he makes them for every gun in his collection.

Those plugs got their start in the early days of military muzzleloading rifles.  Called "tompion" (the origin of the word tampon) they were to keep rain water out of the muzzle when marching in bad weather.
