Joe, I sure wish you'd thought to ask if threading or dovetail mounting of the zerks is preferred. Do I hafta come up there and do it myself? Wink

Not sure I want to try that mouth full of grease method being applied with a blow tube!? Unless it's some bacon grease!

Nice to see that some of the "Old Traditions" are being kept alive.  Though I see they were using Tractor Grease and if you read in Col. Harrison's work that is not the best to use for accuracy!  David

N.R. I believe that tractor grease came to replace the old wagon wheel grease that was used in black powder days. I also holds up better in the high heat of Montana summers.  Roll Eyes Tests held in Iowa corn fields have proven this time and again.

I have found the best way to grease the barrel is to install the zerk in the rear sight dovetail.  That saves unnecessary drilling and tapping which makes the top of the barrel too busy  Roll Eyes

There is a LOT of shady practices here.  Clearly the scheutzenmeisters have been BRIBED!

Note that the Zerk fitting was patented in 1929.  CLEARLY out of the spirit of the fine art of scheutzen riflery!!

Tend to agree CW I was thinking a grease cup might have been in order to meet those times but I could also very well be wrong?

Patent Applied For.
This devise places the barrel grease where it belongs, in front of the bullet. This allows the bullet to spread the grease evenly along the bore as the bullet is propelled forward by the exploding powder. I'm looking for monied investors.

And here I thought that the grease "cookie" went behind the bullet in the case, Thanks for setting us straight.   Smiley

Not being certain of the rules, an Alemite fitting may be legal (invented 1916).  I have a lot of new ones if anyone cares to upgrade their rifle.
