Set trigger questions

Are there any set triggers that can be damaged firing them unset?

Or, any set triggers that cannot be fired unset?

I have set triggers that must be set to use them and others that either way works.  Not much of high-impact going on with just the trigger; therefore my supposition that it wouldn't hurt much.

Probably not, but certain ones, like those on the Mannlichers I used to have, required super-human strength to fire unset.

Single lever double set triggers found on some rifles, old and new, cannot be fired unless set.

That is good to know, Joe. Either I have never done it or got lucky.   Undecided  I have no reason to shoot them unset.

They  must be different than the set triggers used in ML, eh?

My triggers are usually set when I decock the BAllard.  Does it happen on Winchester SST, DST or both?

What about BAllard?  I recall breaking a return spring once, but I think it just happened.  I didn't do anything any different.  CAn't remember if it was a front trigger return or something else.

I'll pull my triggers one of these days and see which spring I replaced.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

At this point in time a number of these guns are old enough that what might have been a non issue decades ago, could now create a broken part easily. I set my triggers on my Ballard rifles whenever I shoot them. And I set them if I'm going to lower the hammer also.
Just don't want the hassle of a broken spring, and having to make replacements.
