Picked this up today, Pretty happy with it. I'm guessing the ES by the caliber must be a previous owner initials

That's a very nice 1885. Especially with the upgraded sights and swiss buttplate. By chance, have you done a serial # search on it from Cody ? Dale.

Frazer,
That's the best HW I've seen in years. Looked long & hard at that one prior to the auction
.....was wondering who got it. Been tracking it's history and it was originally located in Tasmania. Went to the States a while back & then came home. Now back there with you. Well done. Look after it...we want it back.
No idea about the ES.

That's one fine looking rifle. Comes up pretty near the top of the heap, don't it? Let us hear how it performs, when ya figure it out. Thanks.

There is supposed to be a letter for it, but I haven't seen it. If it doesn't show as promised, I'll have to get one.
I'll try to get some pictures of some of the other HW when able. Getting a new pup tomorrow, so things maybe busy for a while.

Another very nice 1885! Maybe the ".32-40 ES" is for the "Evans Special" wildcat version or some such thing? (Just kidding ... although you might want to do a chamber casting and confirm it is still in .32-40 WCF?)
I may have passed my "Best Before" date, but I haven't quite reached my "Expiry" date yet ...

Wow! Really nice knock-your-socks-off rifle! I never see them like that, ever.
But, that's what keeps me in the hunt!
