	A number of years ago I wanted to build up a Rolling Block for long range shooting. I decided it would be a .40-65 Win. chamber, and began looking for an action. My friend the late Whitey Hanson had an original receiver, and after some swapping I got the action from him. I purchased the Green Mountain heavy full round barrel and had a friend fit it. Then cut it to 34". Another friend had given me his stock blanks when he was near the end of his time, and I shaped and fitted them to the barreled action. My friend Wind Whitehill gave me the skeletonized buttplate and told me he thought it would be perfect for this project gun! I polished everything out and sent the action off to Al Springer for color case, and had George Komandine rust blue the barrel. Reassembled the Roller and before I even fired it much, I got into a trade deal on an engraved Ballard and it went away! Eventually the Rolling Block ended up in the hands of a good friend, who used it successfully for long range matches and shooting. I told him if he ever wanted to sell it I was a buyer, and at our recent memorial shoot for Wind he offered the Rolling Block back to me. I'm pretty sure he wasn't done with it, and will miss it. But he knew how much I'd enjoy having it back and sold it to me at the shoot. He also brought loads with it so I could shoot it again before heading home with it! It was a great feeling to hear the old Roller hit the 990 yd. dinger, and know it finally made it back home! 	Considering all those involved in selling or giving me parts for this gun were alive when I built it, it was not a big deal when I let it go. But later on their passing made me wonder how I could be so stupid to let it go? I am very fortunate that my good friend Steve allowed me to get it back. He actually did a lot of work on it also, as the gun had a shipping accident at some point during the three other owners after me. The buttstock was broken, and tangs bent. The breech block had a broken ear, and hammer was chipped in the cocking notch! Steve repaired everything and got it looking/shooting like it was when I first let it go years ago!

	Nice looking RB, I see why you were reluctant to let it go. What's on it for sights? I had a R.Ball & Co. Ballard I sold in a fit of stupidity. A quarter of a century later it came up for auction and I was the high bidder. Regards, Powderman

Regards, Powderman It has an MVA 107 on the rear and a "Farringer" front sight. My friend builds these front sights that are a simple post with a .045" wide blade, and have slots on each side to fit an MVA bubble level. They give a fantastic sight picture, and I prefer them to a globe myself. Unfortunately he's retired and enjoying life, and I can't talk him into building more of them! I heard Pedersoli looked it over closely at the Quigley last year and is considering offering them though.

I was without a .40-65 ever since I traded this gun off, and then JerryH sold me a .40-65 barrel for one of my Ballards last year. Now I've got two, and both are great shooters. I've got a lifetime supply of .40-65 brass as I kept what I had, plus ran into even more later. Just need more time to get out shooting it more now!
