Cartridges of the World lists 330gr lead IMR 4759, 26gr, 1510 Fps
27gr IMR 4198,1450 Fps.
Lyman 403139
I use 45-90 Star-Line brass and try to 2.250.

i have tried several loads with 400 gr postel : 4227 21gr  all over the place, 3031 41gr. recoil brutal inaccurate, 4895 37-38 gr. poor group excessive recoil.   best so far 4759 - 19 gr. unsized or sized have shot 1 1/4 but not consistant, next 5 shot 3"--- 4759  18.5 gr same results 1/12

I think your bullet is too heavy for an 18 twist. I had to go to a 370 grain Saeco 640 to get good results in my 18.

My 40-70BN is actually a Remington #1 Sporting rifle.  The twist is 1 in 20.  It will not shoot 400 grain bullets but anything in the 350-370 grain will do great.  I have an extra 412263 and I think a Saeco 640 if you think they will do any good for you.
