I got a quite few new cases in a trade.im.not worried about it but what's the consensus on the "issue" of the fairly deep groove?

I don't recall ever having any issue with the cannelured brass, just the typical split necks from over working the brass.

It wont be an issue usually unless you shoot very heavy bullets that might affect seating depth.
