Anyone that wants to see, or buy if you like, a Stevens that is a notch or ten cooler than most, go to Leroy Merz and look at the .32-40 made by an employee there as Stevens. Way out of my price range, even if I wanted it, but nice to see one like this. I don't have any reason to share this other than letting anybody that might like to look a heads up in case they don't check out ol' Leroy.

Very nice! I like the relief engraving done on it. Wonder who did the engraving? I spoke with the Engraver's Guild Historian and he said it's a mystery who did Stevens engraving.

Beautiful rifle and I do like my Stevens, but would have to hit the lottery to afford that one.

Thanks for sharing it with us.

Has anyone seen or have reference to another Stevens with the bottom of the pistol grip checkered?

It's been for sale for over a year now. Market is soft.

Mr. Lawrence, I noticed the p.g. checkering too. I thought it nice, but didn't know if Stevens rifles got that much, or if it was a product of this rifle getting extra, extra detail. And, it did.
Also, note that the scope blocks positioning put the mount over the joint of the receiver and barrel rather than just in front of it. That's something I don't recall seeing either.

Mr Lawrence,

Jim Goergen has/had one on his website that had checkering on the bottom of the pistol grip but the gun had been recased and reblued so its hard to say as to its originality.. not the same pattern.  #413A.
IIRC Tony Maddox has/had a rifle with a checkered cap as well, I think I saw it at the CGCA show this year, but hard to be 100% sure.  After attending that show for over a dozen years they're starting to blend together a bit.

Just wondering, what makes this a #54, could it not be a # 52.   Ledball

Amen! At least for high end guns like that Stevens! Guns under $2,000 are holding OK, but the higher priced guns are down 30-50% over what I saw maybe 5 years ago!
Now is the time to invest in the finer single shots if you can! Wish I could convince my wife to let me raid one of our IRA accounts!

My CPA Schuetzen Jr. has 32 lines per inch under the pistol grip and I am sure Paul Schuttleworth would know and he probably has one in his collection.

I have the same question, I've always thought a #54 had a straight grip, even though it was the highest grade model.

Also, that's a very nice first or second year Fecker.

Over the years when my gun storage is running short I have considered selling a bunch of my lesser guns and buying something like this. Wile this is beautiful, the big one on my bucket list is a Stevens-Pope gun.
