My favorite Rifle - The Model 1885.

Some of my favorite rifles   -   Model 1885.

Not for the purist, as they wouldn't take a second look. They all have issues of one sort or another. But I really enjoy them. Even with my piss poor eyesight.

First is my recent addition, 32-20 with special order pistol grip, 30" bbl. and swiss buttplate. Second a 40-65 with factory checkering and a special order 28" bbl. Third another 40-65 with a pistol grip. Last one a standard 32-40 with set trigger.  Dale.

Neat that you have a special sporting Low Wall and High Wall, and both were special ordered with plain non checkered wood! Great looking bunch of 1885's Dale!

Dale,
Real Nice collection!  I am partial to 85's but I find I'm partial to all single shots it's just the 85's tend to follow me home more often.
Glad you found one at the the show that could follow you home  Wink  I was beginning to think you'd need a support group to help you choose one -  Grin
The Winchester Collectors show in Cody Wy is in July, I find myself short on support helping me decide between which one to buy there... Join us???

Hey Greg, First off, it was nice meeting you at Denver. Sure would like to be at the show in Cody but not gonna happen. That Denver show was a once in a lifetime trip for me. But the Baltimore show is in March and would like to attend that one. Only a 3 hour drive. I'm sure they will have some 1885's that need a good home. Dale.

Dale,
It was nice to put a face with a name and I'm liking the pictures I'm seeing here and in your other posts, keep them coming.
I've looked at the Baltimore show and it's one I'm going to make - just not sure whether it's this next one or the one following- Sioux Falls is on the schedule in '19 and I'm not sure I can make them both that close together.

Dale, that's a great set of Winchesters, thanks for sharing.
Here are some of my Australian Highwalls displayed out one of our small country shows. Like you the '85s are my favorite and they were quite popular out here in the late 1800's/early 1900's. Top has a #5 Stevens-Pope barrel in .33/47, middle is in .22 WCF, #3 barrel and the bottom is in .303 Brit, original Win #3 Rd nickel steel barrel.

Spud, your 1885's are really, really nice. Wonder how many were made in .303 ? I'd bet not many.  Dale.
