Thanks Deadeye  and Oneatatime. I don't think I need to worry now knowing that the Hornady brass is the same thicknes as the Captech.  If I should need more brass I'm guessing the Hornady will still be around. I don't know if Winchester or  Remington will make a run again.

Graf and son has a supplier that puts their (Graf) haedstamp on 30-40 Krag bulk brass. I got 500 of them some time back. I have made some of them into 40-60 Maynard using the fireform/ powder/cornmeal method.

I fire formed three cases today using seven grains of Winchester 231 with the case filled with cornmeal and then 1/4 inch beeswax plug.
The necks blew out fine but the body still had some way to go. I was hoping the case would be completely expanded. I'll try a few with the expander button method.   That's what I used when I made my 38-50 Remington Hepburn's.  That worked fine and if I'm going to have to fully form cases either way it looks like that's the easier method. The biggest problem is trimming the necks down with my Lyman Case trimmer. I always get a burr behind pilot and when I try to remove the trimmed case,  it always ends up pulling out of the cutter. What kind of trimmers are you guys using that can avoid that problem?

Use a bit slower powder with more powder.

16 grains of HS-6 with cream of wheat filler works well for me.

Basically half the load for a 1 1/4 oz. 12 GA. shotgun load works fine for blowing out cases.

But I do prefer doing it the slow way using expander buttons.

10 grains of bullseye, fill it up with cream of wheat, no plug ,shoot it straight up. Then run a patch down the bore so no kernels fall down on the next case.
I trim them first down to 2.260 then anneal them after fireforming.

I use 10 grains of unique. That works fairly well but some of the thicker brass does not always get fully formed. The quick pressure spike of black powder will complete the forming process with a bullet. I've always got perfect cases after 2 firings. In my experience fire forming gives more uniform neck wall thickness than expanding dies.

I ordered that 30-40 Krag brass because my older BACO brass based on 30-40 Krag Remington brass was slowly but surely dying out at each firing BUT no chambering.  fortunately a friend with lathe was willing and able to thin the rim by 3 or 4 thou so i could chamber it in my C Sharps Hepburn in 40-60 Maynard, plus i lost a lot when blowing out the brass to 40 cal good to hear about Hornady
