Absolutely not, Tom! If you value your life, use anything besides a Stevens to mount a bayonet on. Those cheap screws holding the butt to the weak action will allow an enraged 'chuck to get inside your defences and maul you to death or give you fleas. Maybe.

A rock chuck town out on prairie in Colorado?? Sure that was not a gopher that looked so big as a rock chuck through that 20X scope and 200 yds of mirage?? Rock chucks live high up in mountains. Could you have gotten lost, or memory faded that badly, or were you driving through Rocky Mtn. Natl. Park on Trail Ridge Road -- plenty of nice 200M shots at real rock chucks up there at 10,000-12,000 feet. Use of live ammo illegal, but with your imagination, no problem.

Rock chucks are bigger, tougher, more destructive and more dramatic than the hoary marmots in the high elevations.

For a moment there i thought that Schuetzenmiester in above post was referring to a critter, Hoary Marmot, that shared some of BigFoot's capibilties. But, a bit of Googling indicates that it is just another critter of NW USA high mountains. Perhaps not in Colorado, which has lotsa Yellow-bellied marmots, aka Rock Chucks. But, would Westerner, living in California, have known that? Or know difference twixt Marmot and Gopher?? Or plains from mountains??

Tom, for heaven's sake, if you won't refrain from this folly, at least do it well. Duct tape the buttstock to reinforce it against the onslaught of the chucks. It'll give better grip as well in lieu of checkering. The baling wire is prefferable to the zip tie method, because it'll allow removal and replacement several times, (one time use for those zips), and the wire might serve to hold parts on yourself if you survive, but are badly injured.
The reason I'm so informed is because I have grandkids and the tv they watch addresses this sort of thing regularly. Smiley

Hey, Gris, we have marmots (chucks) in our Sierra mountains, too. But, you are off when you accuse 'em of only living at those rarified heights. Go golfing in lots of places around here and they are all over the rough. Plenty of balls in their holes, never to be found. We oughta get a varmint shoot once a month on the public courses.

Hoary marmots are the ones that dig caves for bigfoot homes.

Western knows.  Never doubt him.  He is a very talented guy.  Look at his gun work, he can sail, maybe even fly, mill the finest full figure (figure end to end, not just  a spot on the butt) stocks ever seen by mankind, do about anything including motorsicles and finding gold when he needs some.  Cheesy

I learned about you guy bringing in all those critters you have down there. It's interestin' to hear of things that are far away, yet similar to ours. And, the .40 cal seems adequate for foxes.  Good swap of stories?

The secret is Der Schuetzen-Muskel. This has to be worked and worked often.

You see how it is flexing and helping me to support this fifty pound offhand rifle.

Adjustable too! Just push it in or out to adjust your hold!
