I debated between the #6 Schoyen and the regular #6, but the stock repair on the regular #6 just wasn't what I wanted to tackle. It had been cut off, and then reinstalled and needed woodwork I hate doing. " yes I couldn't figure out why the past owner did that to the stock. Maybe for shooting off of bags ? Had a decent bore and was priced right. there were so many good Ballards there it was hard to stay focused. I think Ron Peterson had 6 or 8 and there were a few stunners floating around.

	The Schoyen I got had a few chips off the edge of the forearm here and there. It's sitting on the work bench presently waiting for the pieces I made to set up so I can shape them down and apply finish. Nothing big, but it will look better without the missing chips of wood.

	I really am not fond of fixing little slivers, and big chips are much easier! But I carved up some scrap walnut and fit it into the areas missing wood on the Schoyen's forearm. Then mixed up some two part clear epoxy and dyed it brown. Got the pieces in place overnight, and sanded them to final shape today. Then while the finish was drying I grabbed a 5/16" bolt and made a stem for the missing palm rest. Grabbed more scrap wood and carved out a palm rest as close to Schoyen style as I could. Fitted to my hand, and felt good on the gun. Did a quick sand job and applied some WOP to seal it. Will give it a few more coats after it's dried well. I have found it's easier to start with a higher gloss and knock it down with rottenstone, than it is to try and bring a sating finish up to match. The palm rest is still wet in that picture.

	Thanks Vall and knowing your work it won't be distinguishble from the original and the wood you picked seems to also match very nicely. By chance have you come across a project for the Pope Lever I sent you and one I am highly looking forward to seeing when that day should arrive and hopefully it will work out for you without issue. 	I do have a Ballard in progress the lever is going to go on John. A #2 that will be either relined or rebarreled to .22LR and done schuetzen style. I'm leaning towards rebarrel if I can find a large enough blank to get a good heavy barrel.

	Vall have you checked with BRC a friend just bought a chocked pre profiled I believe in full Octagon but in center fire. JLouis

JLouis Jerry H told me he got a heavy .22RF barrel for a very good price from BRC, and I'll likely choose BRC because of Ken's excellent posts showing the groups he's getting with them. I'd prefer octagon, but have no problem with full round either. But I want a very heavy barrel at 1.25" across the flats, or round.

	That is what I meant, building on a Ballard Their barrels are more than reasonably priced. I was about to jump in too until that thread about what to do with all this stuff when you pass on. I already have too many good shooting rifles I don't shoot now

	Got the shine knocked off the palm rest I built. Now it needs to cure for a few weeks before I can buff it up to match the stock finish. Also dug into my scope bases and found two that fit the D&T holes in the Schoyen barrel. Mounted up the Belding & Mull telescope I had sitting in the safe.
