7mm - favorite bullets?

I'm just starting with the 7mmIntR.  (30-30 necked down) and the 7mm IMHSA.

What are your favorite 7mm bullets?

Hmmmm,
It looks strangely similar to these two molds that I designed, a few years ago.

JL,
I can claim to be the designer of the FIRST scaled up, 28 caliber, version of the Mos 25 Caliber bullet. I posted this design, long before you ever made one.

Mine is scaled up on the Jerry H version of the Mos bullet.

Tell us how you designed your cherry?

Is the nose tapered from the ogive, to body diameter?

What is the width and depth of the bands and grooves?

Did you copy the D. Mos mold design? If so, did you give David any credit?

Was your design STOLEN from David's basic 25 cal design?

This is the drawing from my Darr mold. I think it was made for a 14 twist barrel.

Thanks!  (I've been out ONCE with the NOE 'thor' with loads selected by atmospheric extraction 11.5 to 14.5gr of 4227 - a bit heavy but for first try very impressed on it's POTENTIAL).

I'll have to measure the twists - have two rifles - a Ruger #3 with heavy octagon bbl for bench and a lighter Martini small frame for off-hand.  Either of which will also go prairie dog hunting if the groups qualify.

Back in the day of IHMSA Handgun Sil.
I shot a Wichita Sil Pistol in 7mm Int R.
Favorite cast bullets were:
Lyman 287308,  160 gr  rngc , 1.125" long
and Saeco 281,  135gr fpgc   about 0.98" long.
Coincidentally, I am thinking about resurrecting
a T/C Super 14 in this caliber to shoot Schuetzen Pistol.
Or maybe even a rifle.  I do have a 7 Int R reamer
and dies and brass from back when.
Even did a couple of XP 100s in 7 Int R, using 225 Win brass
which matched std "308/'06 rim dia.

And I still have the molds mentioned. In fact, recently picked up another of the lyman 287308 molds, new in box.

I've also got a xp100 (done by Jim Sinclair) in 7 IMHSA - WAY too loud for me with J bullets, so it's going cast bullet only.

Cat,
you said your XP in 7 IHMSA was "too loud"
Very curious- what powders were you using?
Yrs back in the Sillywet handgun days,
I had found the ball powders, such as 748, Ball C
and some others to be "loud" and also much muzzle
flash.
Went to 4895 or even 4320, 4759, etc. -stick powders
and little muzzle flash, and not as loud.
Of course, I had always used only cast bullets
in my t/c 10" 3030 and my XP  30 SCBS wildcat
as well as the SW 29 Sil  with full house loads.

JL,
I see you copied my scaled Mos 28 a second time Smiley

This is my Borton-Darr, No. 19, 285-143, 1.025, 5GG  Cylindrical Spitzer.

I think you can still get it but, I'm not sure. Maybe Jim can chime in.

Frank

You trip yourself up, JL. This is what your wrote (underline by me):

Quote:
here are a couple more I cut for myself the top a 154gr. FN and bottom a 158gr. Spitzer both for my 12 Twist 28-35SS.

You showed a picture, above of a Mos 28 spitzer, a quite different 28 design.

JL,
Who do you think your kidding?

At the bottom of your post #19, is almost, if not the exact bullet that posted at the top of my post #2, including the base band lenght.

Send me your bullets, I'll pay the postage. Let me measure them and we will see how they are designed. People aren't blind!
