My understanding is uniform ignition & accuracy, is effective by how well the primer compound is ignited, which is directly related to the impact of the firing pin.

Vickery's Advanced Gunsmithing devotes a page of illustrations of different firing pin strikes on case rims, with explanations of the effects of each on ignition.

Do you kn ow what page.  Found the book but it doesn't search very well.

Chapter 9, page 209 is titled 'Problems Of The .22 And Other Rim-fire Rifles'. Plate XIV (showing the various firing pin strikes) is between pages 227 and 229. Also see chapter 13, page 294. Page 297 near the bottom is where the rim-fire firing pin discussion starts.

Not to derail the thread, but Vickery provides an interesting note about putting a dot at the intersection of two crossed wires added into a globe front sight.

Bill Calfee goes into quite a bit of detail regarding rimfire firing pin strike in his book "The Art of Rimfire Accuracy".
