Which target backing material do you use?

Hi Guys. Need some ideas. The club where I shoot uses individual target stands or frames made from 2x2 lumber. The backing that holds the targets is some kind of rubber gasket material that is VERY expensive. The paper targets are stapled to this backing. This system works very well because the bullet holes are almost self-sealing. I’m wondering what your shooting club uses to back or mount paper targets.

Thanks

Richard

Cardboard is what we use we tried Coroplast for awhile and it also worked well but it has it's faults same as anything else that might be being used.

The Assra range at Etna Green uses Coroplast, it’s not expensive and works really well. If your interested in this material someone  can supply the needed info.  Ledball

Coroplast is great especially when you get free political signs  Grin

I use coroplast as a foundation since it is waterproof and retains some strength when full of holes.  I put cardboard over it.  I change the cardboard 10 or more times before I have to change out the coroplast.

If you staple some black polyethylene over the Coreplast it blocks the light.

The Sunnyvale Rod and Gun Club uses roofing felt.

Their target frames are not very large so the felt does not have to span a great distance.

On the ultra simple side, may not be good for a 'match', but works well for MY practice is an 18x18 square of cardboard.  I get them free from work (spacers between layers of incoming parts).

To hold the cardboards, I use a 4x4x12 (cut from free pallets from work).  The 4x4 has a slot about midway an inch deep and is two saw-blades (one cardboard thickness) wide.

SIMPLE, CHEAP.  Ok, the range doesn't have much cross wind, which could be an issue.

When I first started shooting the Alabama NY Hunt Club used roofing felt to this day I have never found a material that showed a bullet hole as well.
For something that is going to sit outside in all weather ant last I think chloroplast is the way to go.

Thanks guys. It looks like coroplast is the most popular. One other idea that was used at a club in Wisconsin is chicken wire. The paper target was stapled to a small piece of cardboard and then mounted on the chicken wire with clothespins. The clothespins worked well for holding clays too.
