RIP Wind

Got word this morning that one of my long time friends and long range mentor, Wind Whitehill passed away last night.
Wind was one of the finest guys I ever met, and one of the best natural long range shooters I ever met also. He generously opened his home to a bunch of strangers to come each year and shoot dingers up the ridge behind his home. He has been the main reason a number of guys I never knew before are now my friends. He'll be missed by many.
RIP my friend.

I'm sorry he's left the range, but that really looks like fun!

A kind of loss I know all too well! My list of "old friends" has dwindled to a number I can count on the fingers of one hand.

Thoughts and prayers sent up on his behalf and for his family.
Its truly a blessing when we are lucky enough to
encounter a few individuals like that as we make
our way thru it all.

Vall,
I have no words to ease your pain, but offer my sincere condolences to you, his family, and his friends.

Val for some reason the Good Lord choose's to take all of the good long before he takes the more deserving. Having lost several of the same it's hard for me not to question the why's and how comes. But by Faith I do truly believe they are all in a better place and all though we miss them dearly they have indeed been extremely blessed well beyond our own comprehension. I also look forward to being in their company someday based on my own faith and the free gift that was offered to me that I have gladly accepted without question and continuely try to pass onto others.

It was with great sadness I received the news of Wiind's passing. He was one of my
many
mentors in the shooting world I communicated with through forums, PM's, e-mails and telephone...............but never had the pleasure of actually shaking his hand in person. That greatly troubles me, for there are many on this forum I know but have not met. "Life" gets in the way, making it impossible for all of us to meet and greet one-another. And as the years go by, we will wake to the reality that an unanswered e-mail will be the heralding of yet another passing. I guess I'm destined to only get to meet all my "friends" on the "other side". It was mentioned on one of Wind's primary forums that he is now probably busy setting up a whole new dinger range for all his shooting buddies. I hope that is true, for now that he is no longer of this earth, that will be the only way I'll ever get to shake his hand.

I didn't really know Wind other than talking to him a couple of times at the Quigley Match. He must have been a good friend to many as a couple of them put up a tribute to him this year. Nice job. I wish I had more of the pictures to show of him. His Pyreneese was enjoyed by many at the match as well.

The tribute at Quigley was done by Wind's friend and spotter Steve. Wind's Pyrenees Cleat passed away a couple years ago, and Wind had just recently gotten another Pyrenees name Bear. Bear is now with another family and doing well.
Glad the folks at Quigley who knew Wind got to see the memorial Steve did, and knew of his passing.

Very nicely done and for one well deserving of such an honor. Hard to imagine how different it must feel to all shooting this match without him and how difficult it is for his friend and spotter.

I never met the man but I have really enjoyed his videos on U-Tube. Even on the screen he comes across as a really nice guy. I dearly hate to see these type of men taken from us.
