Recycle project

Thought I'd share...
I purchased a #4 takedown rolling block from a member a few months back missing a barrel and the takedown screw, nearing completion... or it's shooting now and appears to have some potential.  Found what appears to be a fore end or at least will work and save me a little time.
A friend of mine that dwells on bolt guns gave me a few barrels he claimed were shot out, they were but rather than using them for jack handles or pry bars, I reshape the outside and stuff a liner in them.
A barrel before and it's mate after a few minutes in the mill and the lathe.  They're stainless so they may get a dusting in the blast cabinet to dull them up but it won't ever be passed as original.  Wink

Good looking job, Greg, but more than a few minutes on the lathe and mill.
A bunch of chips on the floor and turned out well. Will make a fine little .22.
Nice salvage of both the barrel and rifle.
Looks like a Farrow project in the background.

Nice work! That #4 action appears to be in very nice shape!

The barrel didn't really take that long, making and fitting the takedown screw gave me far more issues and consumed considerable time getting the fit just "right".  A common comment made in our circle, for all guns and gun parts- "at least we kept this from falling into the wrong hands"  doesn't have as much seriousness with the current administration.   Grin

It is a Farrow, or at least the makings of one.  Unfortunately though, most of the gun projects get idled now until the snow flies again - maybe just a little here and there... Sad

Vall,
The action appears to be almost new, and it did turn out quite well.   I haven't checked it with a gauge yet but the trigger isn't very nice, I'd guess 6 - 8 lbs.  will have to do something about that.

My son asked why it had such a large step in the tulip transition - by the time the old flutes were removed that's what we had.  I thought flutes on this rifle may look a bit odd.  Smiley

I'm sure you could turn the round portion of the tulip down slightly to make it less of a difference in the transition. Doesn't look bad to me though.
