Probably comparable to an antique 8 bore rifle.

As a one shot, shoulder held, shooter of a 16lb, 8 bore double, I can tell you that if the 50 BMG holds 300 gr, it would be close in recoil. The 8 bore load is 250 gr BP with a 1080 gr bullet. I survived it but, never again!!

Frank,  You might have been  a world class offhand shooter if you hadn't done that   Undecided

Yes Bob, I've been looking for a excuse for being a bad OH shooter and you just gave it to me Wink

That may have been the last time I hit where I aimed OH.

Thank you, Bob Smiley

Now that I'm old enough to know not to tempt my aging carcass into showing me what else can go wrong, I've lost any desire to fire such monster loads that will guarantee enough recoil to scramble snot.

But, I'll stand right there and watch as someone else gives it a try.  However, I do believe this will be one of those unforgettable, but regretable lifetime lessons that occur at the speed of pain.

To be old and wise one must first be young and foolish.  How did any of us make it this far?

Does anyone remember the old (50's early 60's) big game animal show hosted by a big game hunter named Marlin something? I loved that show!

I remember a episode where a guy wanted to shoot a 600 Nitro Express. He fired it in the sitting position and rolled head over heels. I've never forgot that after at least 60 years.

Shooting can be fun to watch Wink

Never saw that episode - nuts - but if I remember correctly the show's host was Marlin Perkins.

Just think, CBA, if you really do breech seat that round, you'll be able to get even more BP into the load. I don't care what distance you set up for, just aim the camera at the shooter.  OOOH, I can't wait for the film!

Guys, the Barrett is designed to shoot 750 to 800 grain bullets at 2700-2800 fps and guys do it all the time. A 980 grain bullet at 1350-1450 fps is nothing. The momentum of the BP load is only about 60% of the WP load. Remember a 10 gauge Magnum load is over 1000 grains at 1200 fps.

Well it sure would make hitting the 10 ring on the CBA target quite a bit easier and should up the X count as well.

At a hundred yards it would probably catch the Target on fire

I'm not concerned for the rifle's sake- it's the shooter I want to observe. I'd help load if I were there, operate the camera, too. Cool

Frank, I remember Marlin Perkins.  I don't remember much about it and not that.

A few years ago there was a dangerous game hunting show.  The shot a few lions, elephants and cape buffalo.  The one I recall was a guy kneeling down shooting a charging lion with a double rifle.  The lion kept coming after the first shot. I collapsed on the second shot and slid to a stop tipping the shooter over backwards.   Shocked
