Indeed, a friend still casts with his Saeco furnace,
tho its kind of small compared to many of today's offerings

The old, as in "old" Lyman and old black Saeco look like they were made by the same contractor back in the day.

Shiloh has had an offering and the capacity is something like 30 or 40 lbs and the price is the cost of a good used truck. I am not sure who their market is?

Yes, that RCBS sounds like a good one to try. I am flush with 20lb Lee dip pots, one for each alloy I use, so I have no business getting that new RCBS dipper pot with built in PID and cool cover..... Hmmmmm.....

In all honesty the Lyman 20lb. Dipper Pot. simply hooked up o a 1000 Watt Dimmer Swich in order to provide a constant temp. is still very hard to beat price wise and one only has to bite the bullet for the price of the dimmer switch just the one time. From there on out one could buy multiple Lyman 20lb. dipper pots for various alloys and still end up spending allot less simply by plugging into the same switch dimmer switch controlled outlet. I bought my Lyman Pot back in about 1998 and it still works as new. All though the new digital world is a bit more intriguing it only lasts as long as the undetermed yet time and cost for repairs. The only thing that can go wrong with the old Lyman Pot is the coil and the cost to replace it around $10.00 dollars as the reostat itself gets by passed

Thanks, They had me fooled  Grin

Glad I didn't bother rounding up the parts to make a PID.  Now they have a tailor made for $109.99  Roll Eyes  Surprised they didn't wait to bring this out after I made a PID  Shocked

Did Roland cast his bullets in a mine shaft?      Shocked

Luddites of the world unite!!!! (says the guy who shoots only BP  Wink). And, what does Roland have to do with modern technology? Wasn't he shooting smokeless? If you wanted to stay true to the sport (prior to the 20th century) you, too, would be shooting BP. But, time marches on.

Roland cast while sitting on the bench in the outhouse. Early day multi-tasking. He made moonshine in the mineshaft. Smokeless powder was the smartest thing he did.
I just use a camp stove and cast iron pot. Bullets usually come within about four or five tenths. Sometimes a little better if the days's warm and no wind- I do it outdoors.
Does PID mean Paying it's designer?

The Digital age has become the disposalable age when it stops working it costs more to fix it than to replace it so you just throw it away and buy a new one. I would think CW Roland's casting pot is still around and like Calledflyers is still up and running just fine having nothing for one to repair.

Can't you connect your Iphone to your lead pot as a PID? Or may be just throw it in the pot, then clean the dross off the surface and cast some good bullets.

Kurt as many times as my cell phone drops calls I should probably try giving it a dip in the pot. Must be something in there that should turn out the very highest quality in bullets and the rest should just float to the top with the rest of the dross and thrown away.

I had to go and renew my drivers licence in person when I hit seventy (some rule or other), and while I was there they turned down some geezer who was trying to use some lady's glasses and passing them off as his own. His grand kid was probably having a rough time of it in high school that day without her peepers.
So far, I only need cheaters for fine print. That's from looking at women, not rifle sights. And, I'll be happy to be the emperor of the cheapskate luddites. Joe's gramps can be my prime minister.

Although I have a RCBS furnace which is controlled with a separate PID, I ordered an Easy Melt from MidwayUSA yesterday & it’s on backorder.  So I probably won’t qualify for the $25 rebate but it’s still a good deal without it.

Below is some feedback on the RCBS Easy Melt from a guy that recently bought one.  He also has a Waage pot controlled with a separate PID.

Wayne
=================================
I ordered and received a RCBS Easy Melt from Midway.  I set it up next to my Waage w/PID controller to make a comparison. The Easy Melt has a built in PID. My observations:
Price RCBS $109.99 + $11.49 shipping and additional $25.00 rebate from RCBS (must purchase by 3/31/18) – advantage Easy Melt
RCBS holds more alloy and no thermocouple in the pot which is required with a separate PID. – advantage Easy Melt
RCBS held the temperature more constant than the Waage while casting 20 bullets each. – advantage Easy Melt
RCBS made in China. – advantage Waage
For the price, I couldn’t pass this up as a second pot. After using the Easy Melt today, my Waage w/PID is my second pot. I was pleasantly surprised by the Easy Melt’s performance, considering the low price. I think having the PID as an integral part of the unit is giving it better temperature stability.
I just hope the Easy Melt holds up……………………..

I use a 20 pound lead casting pot on a propane burner.
I refill the pot so it is full so it will be ready for the next use.
I use 20:1 mix for everything I cast: Schuetzen, BPCR,  Military Rifles
In 1993 I set the heat control to full open and have never changed it.
The shrouded pot keeps the temperature consistent.
All my bullets are poured with a dipper.

Joe was your grandfather into dipping?
