Both Lyman ( Turbo Sonic ) and Hornady ( One Shot ) make solutions to add to the water in your sonic cleaner.
You don't have to add much so it's not expensive to use, A word of advice, brush out  the inside of the cases before putting them in the cleaner otherwise you will be stewing them in a black soup that will make the cases look tarnished.

I use oxyclean and water to get most of the crud off the cases before I put them in either the Hornady ultrasonic or the thumblers with ceramic.
In the ultrasonic I use the Hornday solution, and run the cases, two cycles.
I the tumbler I use Ivory lemon dish soap and Lemishine.

I always take a milk jug to the range filled with soapy water. Drop the fired cases into the jug after shooting. Then when I get home I put them in my wet media tumbler and give them a good cleaning. The soapy water breaks up most loose stuff, and keeps my tumbler from just mixing dirty water around later.
I use a Simmons decapping tool, so I decap them at the range before I drop them in the jug.

I use two different techniques.  If I'm shooting black powder I to put them in a plastic bottle with detergent.  When I get them home I  decap and use my Thumler tumbler with SS pins.  Once dry and if I want to make them "pretty" I give them a run through the Lyman vibrating cleaner with shell media.  This is a lot of time.

For most of my brass I decap and run it through the ultrasonic cleaner and then through the Thumler.

To dry I rinse with distilled water, my well water leaves a residue, and then dry in a $2 toaster oven.

I'm now testing a chemical to keep the brass nice and shiny for long time.

Water with a bit of citric acid, squirt of detergent.  You cannot get much simpler...

Shiny is overrated! Wink I always try to get my brass clean, but don't waste time on getting it shiny clean. I use a wet rotary tumbler with ceramic media. Gets brass very clean in about 30 minutes.

If you don't put your cases in a jug of water etc, until you get around to cleaning them they will come out much brighter. I simply deprime the cases and either put them back in the ammo box or if going to a several day long match I put them in a coffee can. Then when back home I give them a prewash in Oxyclean and warm water, then put them in either the tumbler or the Ultrasonic.

A product called Powdered Brewery Wash is really excellent in the ultrasonic. Also known as Five Star PBW, it is available at homenrew shops and widely on the internet. It is a really effective non-foaming surfactant. A small quantity of the powder makes a lot of wash solution.

As "RANCH 13" says, if you decap and toss the cases in water, they will turn black.   Decap at home and put them in the ultrasonic cleaner with a LITTLE dish soap and vinegar, changing the water a couple of times, and you are done.   All this polishing and tumbling the cases can only damage them.
I am working with ca 200 cases in the silhouette gun that have had ~12000 rounds out of them, and they are just as good as new, only a little brown on the outside.
