Looks just like the old .32-40 Remington. It was a .30 caliber also.

Neat! Plinker? Hunter? Target rifle? All?

Hi Joe.........Hunting is out for sure , But the target shooting is what I'm hoping for ,like the past history of
the 32-40 , Way more bullet choice! loads should follow
very close to the 32-40!
and a tin can shooter may be really fun LoL  Roll Eyes

Was that a short case or more like the Ballard/Winchester
32-40 case ???

Ol Deuce,
That does look like a fun caliber, may be one in my future...  Please share more when you get it done.

Been done for many years.  Have two rifles chambered in 32-Krag. Shot a 246-6 couple years ago with IS from the 1885.

I have a picture of a 32-40 Remington Vall mentioned. Will post if I can find it.

Ol Cool......What got me going on this ,I took the throat
sizer out of my Lee 32-40 sizing die and sized a winchester 32-40 and low and behold the 30 cal cast
wouldn't slide back in Grin WoW  So  with the short brass
of the 30-30 I forms it to what I need!! Happy Camper!!!
I'm not after barrel burner Grin but something that is consistent ! in the 1500fps or less Cool

Original Remington and Ballard 32-40 cartridges.

So these cases are longer than the Winchester 32-40 ??

I run my 30-30 cases into a 32-40 sizing die without the
throat sizer/decapper in the die! the second step is using
the 30-30 die for the proper neck size, and the 30-30
bullet seater to finish up !!
Works well for me!!

An original chambering, would be the 32/35 Stevens/Maynard. It had a .311 groove but, I made 2 in .308. My Hoch with a 14 twist Douglas barrel and a 44 1/2 with a LH, 14 twist, Clerke barrel.

It's the best BP chambering, for BSing, that I ever had!

They are a little harder to make but, well worth it.

In the early 90's, I was second to Tommy Mason, by wide shot with a 247 and second in the group match to him also, against his PJ bullet, RKS barrel. The Clerke barrel did a 248 in the mid 90's.

When I refurbished my 1867 Rolling Block I ordered a pistol grip rear stock from CPA Rifles. You might wish to order wood from them.

It has a slot cut for the straight tang Military style No.1 actions.

I tuned up the trigger pull with a wire spring made from .045 diameter wire.

I tried blueing the action which never worked very well.

Best to have it case color hardened if you are doing a total refurbishment.

What are your plans for finishing her?

Looks like a fun case to play with.

The first go-around ,I'll work with what it is than after she's shooting next winter take it apart and case-color
the action and hot blue the barrel!! all the GS work I'm
doing myself just to see.  Roll Eyes Grin ........Time is on my side!!! with this Project !
