What is the longest bullet I can expect to stabilize in a 25-20 SS (bore .257.5) with a 12 twist?
Thanks
Phil

I've used the twist calculators I found on the internet, but I don't think I believe them.

Sg shouldn't be less than 1.4.  If Sg is greater than about 2.0, you may gain some accuracy by going to a slower twist barrel.

A 90 to 100 grain bullet is suitable for the 12:1 twist barrel.

Thank you very much.  I'm getting ready to have a new mold made and wanted to make sure.  I've shot some excellent groups with some 108 gr bullets but they might be right on the edge, I'll have to measure their length.
Thanks again
Phil

Phil a good mould maker the likes of David Mos. can also very clearly steer you in the right direction so I would not hesitate in running it by whom ever that may be as well when you go to order your mould.

Timely discussion for me. I'm new to quarter bore shooting and appreciate the information. I have a Ballard 25-20 SS with a 1-10 twist bore. Assume the above info will work OK in that?

With that twist (10), you can shoot a bullet 1" long.

Geezer,

I am shooting the NOE 117 gr spire point in my 10 twist 25-20 win.  It it stabilizes just fine and is very accurate.
