What about resizing .32 Win Spl?  I've read where they are a bit short, but when the actual brass case has very little to do with the OAL (breech seated bullet).  Why not take a .32 Win case and full length resize it in a .32-40 FL die?  I like the sund of Starline stepping up to the plate.  ED

I've been using Hornady 32 special, they haven't given any problem with fixed ammunition using grease groove bullets. I have a batch loaded up with patched ammo, but haven't taken the time to shoot those to see what happens after you pull the trigger yet.

Don I've separated a few pieces of Starline .38-55 when breech seating with black.   Old Eynesford and Goex FFFg would do it nearly every time.   Swiss 1.5 and Goex Fg is way easier on the cases.  I use plain Goex Fg now believe it or not.  With a breech seated bullet from a particular BACO mold I own, my CPA is the most accurate rifle I've ever shot with black powder.  One of these days I'm going to spend some effort with it to take a serious run at shooting a black powder 250 with it.  First I have to put down the BPTR rifles though.

It would be nice if Starline made headstamped .32-40 brass, but then there goes my retirement plan of selling off my Win .32-40 brass stockpile when I hit 70 Smiley

Chris.

Cheesy Yes those retirement funds can be tricky.
Captec/Jamison had indicated they were interested in running 32-40 and 38-55 brass last summer, but it don't look like we'll get to see that now. Huh

calledflyer,
I've just started my journey using PBB that are 'breech-seated'.  I figure that once the bullet is sitting where it belongs, does it really matter if one case is .020 or .040 shorter?

When I made up 32-40 cases i use that useless short 2.050 Winchester 38-55 stuff. If you use Imperial sizing die wax and resize the cases in 3 or 4 passes the cases will clean up at right around 2.120.

Bucksnort, I was trying to say that your brass, short or full length, isn't gonna make a huge difference in either method of loading. I shoot breach seated and fixed with both (several?) lengths of cases. I keep each batch together, and seldom even check case length.
I do keep the cases for breech seating segregated for that purpose, because I give them a tiny flare at the mouth to seal the load from gas leaking backward. But, I wouldn't have but a moment's work to convert a "fixed" case into the other, or vice versa.
Some of my fixed brass has been fired over thirty times, and I haven't any idea how many times the bs ones have gone. Good luck, yer going to love that caliber, whichever way you choose.

The only concern with being short would be most chambers cut for breech seating have a much shorter free bore and one might get some unwanted flame erosion in that area but maybe of no concern.

Depending on what powder is used it could happen, but in over thirty five years of doing it my rifle's chamber is still fine. Factory chambered in 1889, I have no idea what powders it's seen prior to coming to me.
And, how do we explain all those .38spls shot in .357 revolvers?
.22 short short in Lr? What about any revolver's cylinder throat?
They don't seem to be hurt.

I've read (don't know how true it is?), that BACO bought out Captech/Jamison?  If that were the case, they should just load up those machines and GO.

Had not heard that one, but it would be a great thing if Dave did buy the outfit.

.32 Win. Spl. is my favorite donor brass to make .32-40 also. It easily knocks down the shoulder in one pass through the .32-40 dies, and the cases come out perfect. I have hundreds of .32 Win. Spl. cases in numerous brands of brass, and don't have a preference. They all work well for my uses.
