Grandaughter's Rem No. 4's

Every time I had a grandchild born (they all turned out to be girls), I bought a Rem No. 4.  I was kinda glad when they stopped arriving since I bought the first one for $100 and the last one cost $350.

Anyway, I had them relined, actions color cased, and I rust blued the proper parts.  I stocked them in wood as similar as I could since I didn't want any one of them to be perceived to better than the others.  I only departed from original configuration in that I installed a nickel plate of the belly of each stock with their initials.

I had no idea whether they would ever shoot them or not but at least they would know old Grandad made it for them.  As it has turned out, we take them out every now and then and everyone has a big time shooting targets.
Phil

What a great looking bunch of #4's Phil! The wood matches very well, and appears they all have the same lever takedown also! Those will be nice guns for the granddaughters to enjoy and remember you with!

Thanks.  Now they are all wanting scopes for them, but I want them to learn to shoot iron.  Might buy a No. 4 Rem repro from the RollingBlock guy and see how they get along with that.

Beautiful #4's!
Glad that you want them to learn iron sights while their eyes are young, scopes can be the start of a very slippery slope.      Wink

Browsing and found your great pics and ideas for Granddaughters.
I have Two Granddaughters,so only needed two Remington #4's and I choose Maple for the wood, they are both Blondies, went another step with 410 sxs shotguns they are Walnut now but I have time to switch Bird's eye Maple before they stand online.
My two grandson's have their 22's Sam got a Henry Golden Boy in a NRA raffle,I won he got his Henry,Theo has a Mossburg Model L
Rare; but not shiney-new  Roll Eyesnone of them will lack fire arms. So
a great idea for the girls, hope they will shoot all their lives. At the Hillsdale County Rifle Club we all ways hope to get more young ladies involved with shooting sports. Draws young men as long
as the Ladies don't outshoot them every match Shocked Huh Sad.

Hi Phil,
You did a great job on these #4's and are real keepsakes
for each one of your granddaughters...much less all the
enjoyment and fun generated.  Fritz

Nice wood. I am a sucker for fiddleback anyway.
Where ever you source it wouldn't hurt to pick up some more.
The better stuff seems to disappear just about the time you want another.
