Schuetzen rifle ID

A friend recently  acquired two percussion Schuetzen rifles marked Gebruder Beutter, New Haven, CT. Does anyone have any information on these brothers and/or photos of any of their rifles?

Heck, if you have access to a pair of 'em, you should send pics to us.

Out of curiosity, I ran "Beutter" and New Haven, CT through the Ancestry.com search engine.  There are traces of a Beutter family in the New Haven CT area (graves, tombstones) but the only US census records are for Augustus Beutter, a beer brewer who immigrated from Holland in 1899.  Some of the graves date from the 1870s, but all the names are those of women.  I'll run a trace on a Mary Beutter who died in 1873.  Maybe I'll find something there.

Easy if you have them on your computer.  Don't you see the Attachment box below the dialog box?

Did you select the file and then click "Open" first?

Glad you got the pictures posted BS.  I can see the hole in TG for the palm rest and mounting for the diopter shaft.  Let us know twist, caliber- also presume front sight is pin-head?  jim

I'm not an expert on Schuetzen rifle styles, but they resemble the Swiss military "Stutzer" rifles.  The buttstock doesn't have a perch belly or a pistol grip and the triggerguard, lock, and snail also resemble the "Stutzer".  Are the buttplates also like those used on the Swiss rifles?
Would you mind telling us the weight of the rifles?  They don't look as heavy as other percussion Schuetzen rifles I've seen.  Also, what is the barrel length and drop of the buttstock?

Thank you! Smiley

Agree with S Miller: Palm rests were not used on German Schuetzen rifles with the exception of .22s.
These are Swiss---the rear sight design is unmistakeable--and intended for hunting and target use.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!
