Boats totally agree as once it goes from what is it worth to sending me pictures and the price you want as in this particular case it does indeed circumvent the for sale or trade rules and why I brought it up. All though they seem to be for sale they have yet to be listed with a selling price or a request for best offer if possibly listed to high.

Wow - I would have thought that Cody built Ballard Rifle and Cartridge Co. rifles would have brought a little more...

It’s the calibers.  Both high performance rounds that do very well in Bolt actions.  Single shots extraction is weak compared to a bolt gun. Load either to full potential it’s going to be hard to pull the fired case out.  Buyer will be shooting 7x57 ballistics out of the magnum.  Bit better than than 25/35 out of the 25/06. I have a 25 Kraig on a CPA and it produces 257 Roberts Balistics at best. 25/06 probably the same thing except it’s Rimless which compounds the problem.

If they were chambered in Original Winchester High Wall calibers I would expect ready sale over 3,000 per gun. Of course you are on a experienced Single Shot forum and opinions reflect it.  Some hunter knowing little about SS guns may buy either one at high dollar & jam up that 7mm on a expensive hint.

All the useful calibers High Walls were chambered for, probably more possibilities than any other rifle ever built,  what was the point of 7 mag and 25/06. Cody should have refused the order

Just what does the extractor in one of these look like, anyhow?
I've seen the ones in Campbell's books from the days when Winchester offered a (very) few rimless cases, but is this a different style?

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Caliber is a big factor. But also the Cody built Ballard rifle clones seem to bring much more than the 1885 clones. Just too much competition in the 1885 clones to bring huge money.
The Cody Ballards often sell for more than they cost new, depending on how long ago they were built.

There have been no records of sales on gun broker - not too many out there, I guess

One way to price with a lack of direct data, multiplier on a known similar product. Example lot of Ruger # 1 rifles built,  good reputation and active sales.

Is a Cody Ballard in a similar caliber going to sell at # 1 + 50 % ? double #1 price ?  Triple # 1 ?   Fixing price one thing market size another, how many people are looking for a similar gun. Small market guns sit for a long time before selling.

Way to find out what the market will bear is to list 'em on Gunbroker with a low start and a high reserve.  After a few months you will know what people will actually pay for them.  These rifles are not Bitcoins.  Greater fools are not abundant.

Well, sir, the extractors cannot be like the originals--not exactly anyhow. They had a spring, anchored by a screw visible on the outer, left hand wall of the action. Spring was to apply sideways pressure to keep the extractor against a rimless case. That isn't on the rifles you have shown. Perhaps a spring is mounted internally, I don't know, but, it's not 'identical to the original'. I still have no idea on a price for you, just wanted to understand how that worked on the recreated rifle.

You might try contacting Wyoming Armory in Cody Wyoming. Keith Kilby is one of the principals there and he may be able to help you as they do sell some Ballard Co. rifles. He also could tell you more about their rimless extractor, it's design and reliability with high pressure rounds. I don't believe that Keith, Ron Long or Neal Rice would let a rifle go without their approval.

Thanks for the suggestion about Wyoming Armory.
They confirmed the action is made from a different steel, the extractor is of a different design, and the action will work with any rimmed or rimless cartridge. He also said that the rifles were some of the finest ever produced.
