Stevens confused the issue by applying the same name to two radically different models.  The original WH was the model No. 49 , marked 49 on the frame only; easy to identify because the rcvr. is engraved.  The second, post WW I, WH is so marked in letters on the (round) barrel.

The 417 and 417 1/2's are marked Walnut Hill. The 418 ane 418 1/2's are not marked which makes them sometimes mis identified.

My 417 has "Walnut Hill" spelled out on top of the barrel.

Can you please post a picture of the rifle barrel? I ask this because I have an 417?? It was run over and broken  then  sold at auction. It had a broke top tang and lever trying to rebuilding it , No model # on action, could be 414?? Thanks. Bonner

Does it have the milled out recess on the left side of the rcvr. for the rcvr. sight standard on 414s?
