The Chinquapin SV Oktoberfest 2017 was held this past Friday and Saturday with 8 shooters each day, 5 for both days and 3 from Friday only and another 3 replacing them Saturday.  Of the eleven total shooters we had representatives from GA, SC, NC, and VA, with first timer Stephen Bonner from GA coming the farthest.  We welcomed back “old timer” Willis (singleshot) Gregory after a long absence.  Unfortunately, both Tommy Howard and Gerry Cook fell ill at the last minute after planning to come and were unable to make the trip … get well soon Tommy and Gerry and we’ll see you in June!  Some really interesting guns showed up including a Peterson 22 RF barreled Ballard and a Stevens 44 in 32 1deal to mention a couple.

Nobody undertook the Dell/Hudson 100 shot CF match, but Bill Wehner completed the Zettler 100 shot RF Match and accumulated a 1680.  He also turned in the only recorded 10 shot RF offhand, scoring a 190-0X.

From the bench, it seemed almost everyone wanted to shoot rimfire and the results were as follows;

In CF, the OH was contested between Bill Wehner with his 210-0 and Tim Kuntz who turned in a DNF but seemed to enjoy himself anyway.  Again, it was Bench Rest that had the heavy action in CF with these results;

Also, some of the guys wanted to try out something a little different at 100 yards with CF and irons, so Jim Wheeler shot a 201-1C from the bench with his Martini and Stephen Bonner shot a 163-0C with his 32 Ideal then a 159-0C with his German rifle.  Finally, to make sure we keep Quarter Bore alive at CSV, Ray Hoagland used his CPA Stephens in 25 WCF to score a 245-5 from the bench.

The weather conditions were about as nice as we’ve ever had at Brushy Mountain Club, and as usual the food was good, especially the big pot of Gumbo on Saturday!  Once again, if you missed it, you really missed it!      Stay tuned for the official announcement of the June Match, but it is tentatively scheduled for 6/29-30.  Remember, “You must be present to attend!”
