Nice looking rifle, what's with the triggers and the bullet shaped inlay on the forarm.

That big chunk of iron along the forestock is probably to prevent damage when I drop it from exhaustion. But, the target is as good, nay, better, than I'd do with my somewhat daintier rifle. I'm no threat offhand.
Neat piece.

People were more active back in the day so lifting and shooting a 19 pound rifle was easy  Roll Eyes

It has a bayonet lug on it.

If it truly is a bayonet lug, then despite being far more in the classic Schüetzen style than most examples, I wonder if the rifle wasn't used in one of the Turnerverein volunteer units that fought for the North during the Civil War?  If so, it would add considerably to the rifle's collector's interest and thus also to its value.  How about a photo?

Many Swiss rifles were fitted with bayonets.

And I always thought the Swiss were peaceable folks.  Or maybe being ready for anything is one way to stay peaceable.

There is an apocryphal story about the Swiss and Hitler. Apparently, Hitler met the Swiss ambassador at a function is Berlin. "What is the population of your little country?" the fuhrer asked. "About two million adults" replied the ambassador. "Do you realise that I could put four million storm troopers into your country next week? What would you do then?" asked Hitler. The ambassador thought for a moment and then said: "Well, in that case Herr Reichfuhrer, every body would have to shoot twice!"

Hitler never invaded Switzerland.

Just a safe and convenient place to stash their money before going to Argentina with a little help from the Pope.
Unless you were a Jew in the concentration camps who survived to the end of the war and then found out they couldn't get their money back.
Only years later through pressure from America that those still alive had any luck.

Looking this over one more time, and I noticed noticed something that did not catch my eye first time around.
Joe,  is that blind hole in the Forend metal strap threaded?
and is the entry pipe one piece with that forend strap?

Palm rest ???  if so it'd be a bit unusual for a vintage Euro-schuetzen, unless it was modified on this side of the ocean.
