Nice turn out and great shooting.  What does "standing rest" mean?

Bob, standing rest refers to using a staff to support the rifle while standing.  One of our "elders" has used it a couple of times.

I thought it might be something like that.  Do you have any kind of requirements to qualify?   Too many of our shooters quit offhand because of back or just couldn't hold the rifle any anymore.

Hi Bob, I checked with our Schützenmeister on qualifications for standing rest and he said that it's it its infancy and we're just playing it by ear for the time being.  It may have been suggested by a match they hold down in Texas at times - a standing rest match.

"The competition includes several categories for rifles with scopes and iron sights shot offhand and standing from a rest, on a board with stairstep cutouts for shooters of various heights."

We don't really have anyone currently that can't hold a rifle, but have had many quit in the past.  Who is your schuetzenmeister?

The Schützenmeister for the San Diego bunch is Mr. Russ Hooks.  He's been doing it for us since sometime in the 1980"s I think.  We keep telling him he's not burned out! Wink  He does a helluva job.

Keep telling him, maybe he will believe it  Grin  Is Russ on here?

I think I got my start in the 80s too with BPCR and ML.  I try to forget the early years so I don't burn out  Cool
