.40 I think. No false muzzle, turned for a starter. Berg butt plate.

            Joe.

That probably makes it a Picket Rifle, if it has a slower twist.

Don't know.  Were there any round ball Schuetzen rifles?   If there were that should settle it  Cheesy

What came first, the Picket rifle or the Schuetzen rifle?  Twist in my Meunier percussion Schuetzen rifle is about thirty. Is it a picket rifle or a Schuetzen rifle?  I call it a Schuetzen rifle even though it was used with a picket bullet. Is it important? Meunier is the important part.  If I have to type Schuetzen one more time my head will explode. Wink Schuetzen....................POOOOF!!  Shocked

Joe,
I didn't mean to change it from a Schuetzen, to a Picket rifle. I was talking more about what it would shoot for a load.

Joe,
What's to dislike about picket bullets. They do pretty well against shug guns. Only one point off.

Pretty darn good for what a picket bullet is. They have very little bearing area but, fly very well. I'm not sure where you can get linen for the patching but, you could maybe add some bearing area and use Velum paper.

Sad thing about that match result, is everyone is dead but me.

I'm sure lots of people like that result...... fun to watch  Smiley After all, you have Patty to patch you up now Smiley

If it shoots good off the bench, it will shoot better OH, too?

Maybe a little more bearing area would = lower powder charges? Give it a full base band and a taper like a short BS bullet. Picket molds are easy to make, too.

My slug gun was more like a Picket. It just had a bullet starter with X paper patches and I put a 2 deg lead in the lands of the Douglas barrel, to keep the patches from tearing. I used a 20/1 cast bullet (not swaged), groove diameter base band and the rest was bore riding.

Yes, it is a picture of him.

He was one of the most famous slug gunners on the West Coast. He was dead though, by the time I started so, I didn't get to meet or shoot with him.

So very few pictures. This one was affectionately called "The Shrimp Gun" since it had spent the majority of it's life hanging over the shrimp pots at a local restaurant. The barrel is heavily pitted but the action and the bore are excellent. .40 Cal and if memory has it about 1:28".

That rifle was really hanging in a restaurant? Can you tell about the "rescue" from it's resting place?
