While not a single shot I have a question..... I have found an 1886 lever gun and it is listed as a 46-82 win. I have not heard of this round. I have not called about the gun to see if it is a misprint. Is there such a round?

No such critter.
But, if that '86 has a decent barrel you'd probably like it for a shooter. My 40-82 has a so-so barrel and does decent shooting. With my old eyes and the barrel sights it'll pick of cans at a hundred now and then. Nice guns those 1886s.

According to Madis' Winchester book there is no 46-82. There is a 45-82 however.

And particularly a 40-82 Win round was chambered in
1886 wins. Are you sure that "6" is not really a "0" on the barrel markings.?

Could be as I have not seen the rifle. Description says it has a bulge about 3 inches from the muzzle and a frosted bore. Don't know if they will entertain an offer for less that the advertised price. Just wasn't sure of that caliber. Guess it won't hurt to ask. Thanks everyone.....

Winchester experimented with a .46 caliber cartridge for the Model 1886 rifle. Dan Shuey's WCF book explains it. Unfortunately, I no longer have mine!

Interestingly,
What we call a 45 cal, as in 45-70,45-90,etc
could (almost) be called actual 46 cal as
many rifles, TDs, and others have groove diameters
at and above 0.460.
So, what's in a name?
44WCF/44-40 is actually a 43 cal( .427to43X groove dia.
30 cals: at 0.308 , could be called a 31 cal
38-40 is actually a true 40 cal.
Etc.

And, Yes, I know, many were named based upon bore/land
dia rather than groove dia.
But then again, that 44-40- the lands are probably around
.42x or so

Shouldn't this be in "off topic chatter"?
Don't know why. Maybe "Reloading" would be more appropriate, but it's not "off topic," like my thoughts on that crazy crybaby slandering nut-case Surfer Girl would be.

It's not a single shot.
You're right, but for making an objection to the original post, the statute of limitations has run out.
