Seems like if you stuck a "46" cal bullet into a 40-82 case, wouldn't you pretty much end up with the 45-90 WCF cartridge (or one of its variations such as the 45-85-300 Hollow Point, or the 45-85-350, or the 45-82-405)?
There are three kinds of men: The ones that learn by reading, the few who learn by observation, and the rest who have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.

Resurrecting and old thread as my first post. I found this related to the .46WCF
IIRC, the scan is from Volume 2 of Hoyem's 3 volume series on the development of cartridges. If you are into early single shots, vol 2 is worth investigating.

As far as the post goes I asked a simple question...... Sorry if I created a stir. Next time I will place such questions elswere. I only asked it because I knew I would probably get the best response here. The moderators have my permission to either move or remove it if they so wish but thanks everyone for all the responses.

I don't think those 1.4" long cartridges are long enough for the carrier hook in the 1886's carrier to grab on to.

I'm glad you asked, it's the most fun I've had in about a month. Got another rifle to have us critique? So, I guess that JHM should get an attaboy too.
