For that matter, has anybody tried stop-ring bullets in any of our 'normal' calibers? Like 32-40 or 38-55. I never even thought about it, but it is an interesting notion.
Great question, Joe. Smiley Smiley

Joe:

I can send you some 85 grain RCBS flat nose bullets if you want to try them.

The mould is a double cavity and is for sale.
You could cut a stop ring in one of the cavities.

Never heard of stop ring bullets that small.

Just curious, what rifle(s) do you have in 25-20SS?

Usual load in my rifle is 8gr IMR 4227 breech seated 120gr bullet. Does 7gr powder sound about right for a fixed round? Quite a reduction in capacity, fixed.

Sounds about right but, I think something like H108 might be better at 6.5 gr. If you have any.

Good luck Joe.  I have tried fixed loads in my 10 twist 25029 Win low wall.  It won't group well at all, but your idea may work.  My two tapered bullets over 100 gr just fall into the case.  I have given up on fixed.  It shoots great breech seated.

That was my thought as well.  I may try again once the weather cools off a bit.  I hate casting when it is almost 90.  I still have to go to work each day....bummer.

Remind me when you stop by.  I have some 115gr Lyman 258231 plain base FN hard cast bullets that I got from Western Bullet.  You can have then if you want.  There is a Jeep transmission that goes with them.

Joe,
FFT...
Slot the die part way so it sizes it the whole way. You'd have a dimple and ridge above it, what would they sound and perform like with tiny fins then?

Fluxing? I use a cast iron skillet on a gas burner outside, get my mix right in larger quantities, flux before pouring into ingots with paraffin stirring well with a dowel, all I do then when casting is stir occasionally.   Pouring 10 - 20 lbs from a hot skillet is a workout.
