Steve's second 248 with his RKS barrel and prototype action. This one a little tighter.

Very nice shooting on Steve's behalf and well deserved one would be hard pressed to find a more friendly competitor and or gentleman to represent the sport.

That action looks better than the first one he brought last year I think it was. The new one looks a bit smaller and sleeker.  Steve shot well with it a Spokane this year.  Hope it can be produced economically.

Jack, what is the comment about on the action. Is someone making a new action? Any pictures?

Steve Barber is working with a friend and designer to build a new action.  If I recall correctly it looks sort of like a high wall externally but is totally different inside and is very easy to disassemble.  It is beefy enough for some pretty stout cartridges.  Steve has been helping refine the design.  Last year he had an action.  This year he had a nicely finished rifle.  Frank,  Any more details?

Thanks Jack.

Bob,
It's a very strong falling block but, a competely different design than anything in the past. A very unique and easy to dis/re-assemble.

When Steve get's all the design details sorted out and it's close to ready to sell, I will do a article on it, here on the forum, with pictures.

It will be sold as a "kit" rifle for ATF reasons and as I remember, will need a very small and minor amount of machine work.

At this point, all I can say is stay tuned.

I'll talk to Steve about it. I told him that I would post on the forum. Steve isn't to internet capable. His wife did most of his computor stuff, before she passed.

He may like to get it in the Journal, himself.

For those attending Raton, he will have it there and you can get a good look at it and get more info from him.

The Steve Barber 248 is a beauty. Does it not qualify as an ASSRA record, or was the match not sanctioned by ASSRA?
Regardless ............... Congratulations to Steve for a "dream target".

A 248 AS target isn't a record score, for any match that I know of. JSSS is a fully sanctioned club and has been for the last 31 years.

Had those two shots been .020 higher, it would has been submitted for a additional 250 score record.

My error. I ASSuMEd all targets were RF as I did not see any mention of CF specified. I did not discern the size of the holes.
Regardless ............. a very beautiful target.

I noticed Steve's 248-8 was being noted as being re-entry and Tony's average was way down so was Steve the only one shooting re-entry.

Ray,
I'm sorry that it wasn't noted. These results where copied and pasted for a Word doc, sent out from the Schuetzenmeister. I'm not Schuetzen this year so, the format is a little different than I do. We have never had a 200 yard 22RF match so, I didn't think to add that. All our matches are 200 yard CF and 100 yard RF but, I'll try to make sure it's noted in the future.

JL,
I'm not seeing what you are. Tony and I are the only ones listed under the Re-entery heading. We almost never have re-entery matches. I shot mine because I was having trouble and posted a target while the IS match was going on. I assume that's why Tony shot his re-entery, too.

I hope you got your problems sorted out Frank they seem to be on going and I wish you the best. Sounds like Tony is back to shooting his Miller again and if so I hope he too got his problems sorted out for his trip with Dave Jones this weekend to the ISSA National Match at Raton next week.
