Belding and Mull window replacement ?

The reloading god's gave me the scare of a lifetime a few minutes ago!  I was loading some cast bullets for my 38-55 Model 94 and decided to break into my last can of 4759 powder.  I filled the hopper to the top and set my measure for my load and threw the first charge.  When I cycled the lever again to use the double charge method learned on this site the window broke in half and fell out onto the floor.  All of my precious 4759 was also spilling and as luck would have it I had an empty plastic cereal bowl within reach and I managed to catch most of the powder falling out of the hopper.  The glass broke in a million pieces when it hit the concrete floor so I do not have a pattern.  What is the best way to replace the window and what material should I use?  Tom Embarrassed

It's not very traditional, but, a piece of plastic coverplate for a welding helmet works and will not break.

hello
broke one of my windows last week. was able to walk into a local glass shop and in 10 minutes they cut a new one for me for $4.00.  3/32" thick (.090") by 1 3/8" x 1 3/8" square. take the aluminum block with you and tell them it needs to fit nice.
best

Plastic would be nice but not sure if static electricity would be a problem.
How about this: get a replacement cut from glass ( and a few extras to have on hand) then cover each one with clear tape (clear duct tape?). If they break the tape will hold the pieces together so you do not loose precious powder or have a mess to clean up.

I use packing tape with nylon washers under the screws. tried this years ago and have had no problems since. I have many set up for various charges. Also found that Redding pistol micrometers make very repeatable charge tubes, but will only hold about 18 gr. of fine or ball powders. The diameter of the mike has to be reduced slightly to 1/2 inch if memory serves.

I got replacements from local lumber yard that cuts  glass. Its not as thick but has worked for 5 years. I had several pieces cut and it was no charge it all came from there scrap pile.

A few short years ago there was an outfit who took on the task of re-introducing the B&M measure. I don't remember what they called themselves or whether they are still in business. I did buy a couple replacement glass windows from them for a little bit of nothing. Some adroit Google-fu should find their trail in the internet jungle.

(Darn if I didn't break one of the new windows when installing it. They are pretty delicate. Another word of advice: a crack in one of those windows is sufficient to lay open one's thumb if rubbed across it....)
