Percussion target rifles?

I am looking for references to the makers of percussion target rifles in the post-1865 period.  I have A.M. Carey's American Firearms Makers and all of Ned Roberts books.  What have I missed?

Yes, I am still searching for info on William B. Farrow from Holyoke, Mass.  Carey is the only reference so far.

Also, I have a cased Brockway rifle I want to learn about.

Is there any forum that discusses these rifles?

The American Percussion Schuetzen Rifle by Rowe is another interesting read.

Exclusive information about Norman S. Brockway is hard to come by.  I can only add to the references already mentioned a 5-page article plus footnotes, "Norman S. Brockway and his Rifles", by Eric Bye, which appeared in the June, 1997 issue of Muzzleblasts, the organ of the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association.  A copy of that article may be available from the association's archives.

You might also try contacting long-time gun dealer Richard Littlefield at anniesgang@earthlink.  If that email link proves no longer current, you can try his son, who deals through the Firearms Gallery at the Antique Associates at West Townsend web site.

Hope this is of some help.

You've checked the NMLRA site?  Even there, it would be a fringe interest, because the folks who used to be most interested in such guns (I remember some of them) were all older than me; now, they're RIP.

I don't know when he interviewed Brockway but ned Roberts met with him just before he died. Roberts wrote an article in I think the American rifleman. if the interview was after the muzzle loading cap lock rifle was done you may find additional info there.

I had some old American Rifleman magazines, and there were two articles about Norman Brockway, who as I recall, lived until 1936. The articles were about Brockway's later rifles, which were single shots that he re-bored and fitted with false muzzles and starters. These guns came with two piece molds and swages, and were made for two strip paper patches.

Do you mean he made heavy slug guns on a sinle shot center fore action?

Brockway made at least two heavy muzzle loading rifles on center fire single shot actions.  Reports have both with false muzzles and paper cross patches.  One rifle was a .34 caliber on a Farrow action.  The other was a larger caliber, maybe .38, on a Whitney action.  Which Whitney action I do not know.  My guess is Phoenix.  Both used conventional cartridge cases to hold powder & primers.

Homer Fisher of New York made a muzzle loading long range match rifle in the 1870s, styled after the classic British long range match rifles of the period. I have some (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

You might also try calling Lee Shaver who is heavily into M/L long range shooting and also manufactures a replica of the Ferris M/L target rifle.

Have a copy of an 1880 Fisher catalog, but this is more info about the man than I've seen elsewhere; wonder how he reacted to being labeled "not a brilliant marksman"!  Have a feeling he only commissioned the rifle in question, as he's not mentioned by Roberts as a maker.

Homer Fisher was one of three men who won their way into the three NRA-financially supported positions on the American 1880 International team, competing against the Irish at Dollymount.  W. Milton Farrow was another.  There were some 40 shooters trying out for the positions.  What would be required to be "a brilliant marksman"?

I went to the NMLRA website.  No forum and not really much help.

I could subscribe to Muzzle Blasts.  I subscribed back when I was in the Navy.  Always looked forward to Es Possible En Cuba.  Those guys must have all passed away by now.
