My new breech seating tool.

Just received this from Jerry Cleave, and I'm extremely happy! I saw pictures before ordering this breech seating tool for my Hepburn Match B, but honestly the tool is so much nicer in person!

Sent Jerry two fired cases and he built this fine tool to custom fit my Hepburn Match B's .32-40 chamber. My groove diameter is a quite large .327" so I'm using a .328" bullet that wont allow fixed ammo. So breech seating is the only option on this rifle, and Jerry's tool will see a lot of use with the Hepburn! Really a precision machined tool, that is finished extremely nice!
It drops in nicely, and then the anchor bar swings into position and fits the breech block mortise great! Plenty of leverage to seat the bullet with little effort! And the handle can be reversed to right or left by removing one screw, and flipping the pushrod around 180 degrees! Takes a few seconds to change right to left!

Hope the rains stop here soon, so I can get out and try it!

That's a nice tool.  I'm glad to see you making progress on my favorite Hepburn. Here's something so you can shoot in the rain.... Smiley

I ended up grabbing a Lee aluminum mold for a 180 gr. 8mm bullet. Still too small, but I got out my decimal drill index and gradually bored the base band out to drop at .328" diameter! It's a spire point mold, and not sure if it will be what I end up with, but gives me a cheap bullet mold to begin with. Not a fan of aluminum molds, but they're OK once I polish the mold tops and bottom of the sprue plate with 500 grit.

Jerry is a close friend and his tools are real Jewels and everyone should save up and buy one of his Re&De Cappers it too would be money well spent.

I don't have one of his re-decapper tools John. but may have to get one! From the fit and finish I see on this tool, it's some of the finest work I've seen!

Vall,
What is the purpose of the tappered screw? To allow the anchor to swing up?

I can attest to the quality of Jerry Cleave's workmanship. I have use one of his breach seaters for my FBW and it works great. His "Pool Tool" is the best thing going for capping and de-capping.

The screw isn't tapered Frank. It is straight shank screw, and yes it allows the anchor to move up above the action to drop into the mortise.

Along the lines of really cool tools!
We had our collector gun show today, and another cool tool showed up! An Ideal #2 re-decapping tool! I've searched for one of these little guys for a very long time, and now own this one!

I'm told Schoyen included these Ideal #2 re-depcappers with the shooting kits that he offered when people purchased guns from him!

Same here John! I first saw a picture on the internet about 20 years ago. Then noticed John Dutcher showed a picture in his Ballard book as part of a Schoyen shooting kit. They're a very compact tool at about 7" long.

Absolutely! It's designed just for the purpose of allowing use with any scope mounted.
