For those who like to cry silently, that travesty of a sight sold for $402.74 (including shipping).  Sigh!

I'd been thinking that for a good usable sight, $150, even $175, wasn't out of line, relative to repro prices.  But $400+ defies belief, especially after the seller's reference to ASSRA raised a red flag, or certainly should have!

Most amazing is that it seems fair to assume the buyer probably fancies himself an advanced Stevens collector!

The seller's response to ASSRA site members "picking on his auction" brings back the old saying, "The truth hurts". He's upset that people recognize his sight as a cobbled together item, and playing the victim, being picked on by a bunch of bullies at the "ASSRA Club".
Ignorance is bliss, as the seller and buyer both show.

sight sold on gun broker, seller re sold on ebay. (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links). maybe an identical sight ? gun broker description: "Up for bid is an unmarked wind gauge vernier tang sight. 1.5 inches center to center holes. This is an older sight that might have been reworked as there is a hole on top that is not filled but looks like it should be there. Still nice solid sight that would work on a stevens ideal , favorite or model 44 . Up, down, left, right adjustments work fine. Upright position snaps into place solidly ."

Hey now, sharfe!  That's as good as 4Chan finding out where Shia leBufflehead had hidden his video camera!

One thing I grew to hate in my antique motorcycle period was arbitragers.  Guys who had no interest in the bikes, other than to buy and sell to make money.  We have in 'em the gun hobby, too, that's obvious.   I've become reluctant to list items here at prices I feel are fair for trade between enthusiasts, for fear that they'll be on evilBay next week.

Sure I'm paranoid, but am I paranoid enough?

Nice work Scharfe! And proof that the seller did indeed know it was put together, even though he now cries he's been picked on by bullies!
Love it when these crooks are found out, but too bad it was after the auction closed!

Only about 90 or 95% of all gun dealers.

But before or after, nothing could have been done, thanks to eBay's protection of crooks--who are, don't forget, the source of their profits.  In the early days of ebay, it was possible to send a warning message directly to bidders, but ebay soon made it impossible for one member to communicate directly with another. It's even impossible to send email addresses using the ebay message system, though they haven't yet devised a way to prevent exchange of phone nos.

I don't believe those two sights are the same ones. Look at the base of both sights they are different.
That was a good try scharfe but I don't believe it fly's.

I don't see any difference in the bases. Could you be more specific?

There is no difference. It's either a twin on each auction, or the same sight. Both show a Jeff's Outfitters Hungarian base on them.

I'm comparing the sight bases on the pictures displayed in  posts #1 and post #17  of this thread and they are different bases. Look at the detent spring  in the base of post 17 there isn't one in the base of the picture in post #1. The vertical shaft nut is mounted on opposite sides of the eyecup in each picture. Sorry but I'm seeing different sights here.

I'm either looking at different pictures than you are, or not understanding what you're referring to?
The sight base at the GB auction has a detent spring, but the one on Ebay doesn't even show the bottom side of the base to determine if it does or doesn't. But the fact they both have the screw for the detent spring attachment tells me the Ebay does indeed have it.
Additionally both sights show equal wear, but both sights show brand new bases of the same design and finish.
The vertical adjuster is between the staff uprights on both sights, and not in front or behind. Since the eye cups are both on the side facing the shooter's eye, I guess I'd say they are both behind in relationship to the aperture. I still can't see a difference in the adjusters. If you observe picture #2 on Ebay and picture #5 on GB, you'll see they are not only identical appearing, but even have the same marks and two small holes in the plate the apertures screw into! Windage for both is identical, and on the right side when facing the aperture.
I see nothing to tell me they're different?

Moreover, if you compare wear/abuse marks and pitting patterns, especially on and around the eye piece, it's clear that they are for sure the same sight.

Also just in case you're wondering, an email to the seller asking if they were the same sight elicited - surprise! - no reply.

Ok you've got me convinced now. I do agree that the two sights appear to be one but before I  definitely saw one of the sights with a flat spring in the center of the base that was similar to the base spring on a "no name" Ukranian sight that I have.
Now I'm so confused I can't find the picture.
But I'll concede. I do believe you are correct, and good, quality inspection work scharfe.
