Belding and Mull Measure maintenance suggestions n

I bought a Belding and Mull measure a few years ago and didn't use it too much until I read on this site about working the lever twice to decrease the variation between loads.  I now use it for many of my hunting rifles and leave other methods to my precision rifles.  Now I have noticed that after using it to throw some charges of fffg last week it is a little sticky and could probably use a good cleaning.  What is the proper way to clean and lube the measure to free it up to where it slides back and forth easily from just the spring.  Thanks.  Tom

I use one of the Harbor Freight sanding sponges for cleaning the cavity as it is a good fit.  Then I spray both the cavity and the aluminum shuttle with mold prep which is like a spray graphite.

Use my B&M only with BP. At the start of each loading 'season' (Mar-Oct) I disassemble the bottom portion with the lever, spring, etc. Simply brush it off and lube the wear areas with a bit of Johnson's paste shoe polish/wax (am using cordovan, but am sure black or brown would work just as well  Wink). I usually load ~3000rds of 40-65 for a season and it lasts at least that long with Swiss 2F. Have never found the need to 'clean', but I do empty the B&M completely between uses.

I use powdered Graphite to lube mine. Same stuff you use in locks.

Tom, my method that works but to each his own:
* With the cylinder removed -  Spray the inside of the B&M with cold zinc.  Reduces the adhesion of the powder sticking to the inside walls.  Then after each use, I spray the cylinder & inside walls with Lehigh Valley Lube & Clean, then wipe with a cotton cloth to remove any fine powder coating

I have found that plastic powder measures though - like the Lee Perfect Powder Measure, never have to be cleaned inside with either BP or smokeless charges
