I just wanted to say hello to everyone since I just joined the forum recently.

I'm trying to post some pics of a Hopkins and Allen rifle just recently given to me by my father.  Scope is Steven 141. We have been trying to find the correct Stevens mounts for a long time with no success.  So, we finally gave up and mounted it with a set of Litschert mounts.  What do you guys think, are they to big and chunky?  Is it an obomination? Embarrassed

Thanks,
Mike

An abomination? Methinks not, because most of the time when I look over at the next bench there's an AR with about twenty rails and things like flashlights dangling therefrom. Your rifle is neat. Have ya shot it any?
Glad ta have ya, and hope you enjoy the place.

Welcome Mike,

I don't think you will find anyone on the forum that would criticize your rifle or not like to add it to their collection. Any additional information as to caliber and history would be appreciated.

Thanks for the nice comments guys.  just wasn't sure how these mounts looked compared to the correct Steven mounts.

I have not shot it since mounting the scope and only a few times before that.  Hoping to get out and sight in soon.  Indiana weather is starting to warm up.

My dad purchased it about 10 yrs ago so it's not an original family heirloom and I don't really know the history before that.

We have another H&A 922 action/barrel that was my great grandfathers but it's in bad shape and needs some parts to be able to restore.  If anyone has some parts I would be interested.

calledflyer, I love that old table too.  I think it has about 5 or 6 leaves and we can get the whole family around it during the holidays.

Mike.

Welcome indeed, your rifle looks just fine, and the scope now has better quality mounts than Stevens originally provided.  Moreover, while the rifle's apparent high condition alone makes it a rarity among so-called boys' rifles, if it has a factory Schuetzen buttplate, your collectibles cup runneth way over!

Hi Bill,

Ha, I didn't even notice end of buttplate was cut off in the picture.
It does indeed have a nice Schuetzen buttplate.  I will try to get a better pic of it.

Welcome Mike,   I see you are just two hours south of Etna Green,  hope to see you  at a shoot this summer.  The rimfire spring rimfire match is just a few weeks away.

Nice rifle. You're an easy drive from several ranges. In addition to Etna Green, there's Effingham, IL, and the St. Louis Benchrest Club is a bit further. The NMLRA range just west of Cincinnati in Friendship, IN isn't far.

Nice rifle and scope! Changing to later mounts was something may shooters did just to improve their scope, so I think it's a nice choice for a "period" modification.

Looks like a nice H&A 3922.  They are one of the best kept secrets in single shot rifles.  My first H&A is a 3925 in 25-20SS.  Took me a long time to find a 3922 on gunbroker.  My '25 has dovetails cut for that type of long scope but has a good Lyman tang sight, so without the correct scope mounts, I use the tang sights.  Have fun with it.  If you find an extra set of dovetail rings, give me a buzz.

Hi colJimmy,

Yes, it is 22LR and I believe it is some variant of an H&A 922.

After several years of searching, I was not able to find the correct Stevens dovetail rings either.
What I did in order to finally mount this scope was order these dovetail blocks from MVA.
(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links);
I drifted out the original front and rear sights and installed these blocks.  I think this will allow you to use any Unertl style scope mounts with the correct mating dovetail.  In my case,  I had access to a set of mounts made by RA Litschert.
