New .25 Rimfire

I have been experimenting with making new .25 rimfire from the .17 Winchester Super Magnum, and it has been a complete success. I removed the bullet and powder, and trimmed to the base of the neck, then used 1.6 gr of Trail Boss, and a .251 lead air rifle bullet from Hunter's Supply (I think they cast from a mold meant for the .25 ACP). Fired out of a Stevens 418 1/2, shot fine and accurate. The only note is that the rim of the WSM is a tad thick, owing to them beefing it up. Might be slightly problematic with repeating rifles such as the Marlin 27, but they worked fine in my Stevens, with no signs of headspace issues.

Exciting!

Does it really fit into the chamber of a rifle made for .25 Stevens rimfire?    (Be still, my beating heart!)

And dang!  If they've got volume production going for that case, then there's no excuse whatsoever for not making a run of .25 Stevens themselves!

Wonder if they would sell, say, 100,000 primed but un-necked cases to a boutique ammunition maker? With the price of Canuck ammo (which ain't really all that collectible yet) running about $2.25 a round, new made ammo at even $1 a round would sell.  If the cost per primed case were under $0.15, there's be big profit in it.

That's a $15,000 investment for a unsure market. Plus another $2500+ just for the license to buy them Sad

It's not the same world as it was when the 25RF was still being produced.

That's why I mentioned a boutique manufacturer.

What could an outfit like Dixie or Buffalo Arms do for yearly volume?  Compare with some of the other rare cartridges that are being made and sold.   11.15 x 58R Werndl?   .22 WCF?

OK, maybe it's a pipe dream, but it's my pipe dream, and I'm stickin' to it.   Smiley

Recon this load would work in a Hopkins & Allen 2925?  I got a nice one out of a lot of 4 H&A's in an auction.  Good tight dropping block action.
