	Almost there. The solution to the splitting necks was to trim the brass first to 1.135" (You need to *Login* or *Register* to view media files and links) Right to left is a finished round with a 75 grain Vmax, next to a 17 WSM. The progression of steps to finished round. Pulled bullet, trimmed to 1.135", necking up starts at .187" this mandrel was made from the back end of a 13/64" drill bit and grinding a long slow taper. From there it was easy, moving up a caliber at a time, 204, 22 243, 257. Trimmed to 1.200. Completed with bullet seated at 1,250" base to ogive. (You need to *Login* or *Register* to view media files and links) Time to start working up a load after a few refinements to the sizing process. Sadly, I remember it shooting better than this. Then again, back then I could see the sights. Any one have a line on a suitable aperture type sight to help a guy see the target again?

	Maybe it doesn't like the 75 gr bullets? Could try some 60 gr 25-20 bullets.

It definitely does not like that bullet, it's only redeeming quality was availability. Holes were showing signs of keyholing which matches up to stability calculators showing it needs a 1/14 twist to be barely stable at 950 fps. All things considered I was pretty happy to have five shots on a piece of paper at 50 yards. Some 60 grainers are on the way and if they work, I'll be looking for a mold to get something closer to original. Hope some others can get something going.

	Made another expander and brought 19 cases up to .208 I.D. Lost one. Now I'm out of Lee decapper stems to modify, so off to the (online) store.

	Played a little more tonight and on cases with a cut neck, I was able to go straight from 20-25. Took it slow on the press because I could feel the machining marks on the mandrel. I'll polish these to a nice fine shine at first chance. I'm feeling more and more confident in the process and have not lost a case since trimming first. I pulled a bunch out of the garbage that I think I can trim below the split and give it a try. A big thanks to willsweptline for the inspiration I know there have been plenty of different attempts at this over the years, but having basically "real" brass to load is pretty darn fun.

	Best guess from looking at the stuff on the web is that the priming mixture is chlorate, ground glass, sulfur and maybe charcoal. So you are back to a corrosive primer. As to annealing: the usual modern priming mixtures are a slurry in water when applied. You might get away with standing them in water but I like the idea of some kind of a collet the you can spin while heating the appropriate section of the brass. Then quench in water. .... maybe the whole setup in in a portable drill? Peruse some of the stuff on the web about induction or flame heat-treating. I wonder about priming used brass. Anneal and shape without having to worry about the primer. Then recover priming mixture from primers as a slurry apply and use centrifugal force either axially or radially to implant the slurry. Just thinking out loud which usually gets me in trouble.

	My Marksman seemed to like Lyman 65 gr. GC slugs cast from 1/50 without the gas check, about .257 with 3.1 gr. Blue Dot, from a case primed with a .22 case with the bullet pulled and powder dumped. Disadvantage: some swaging and machining to make the cases, but they should last forever. Reworking these rimfire cases sure makes a neat looking round and might provide more consistent ignition.

	My Marksman won't hardly even dent the rim of these new cases, much less fire one. For the Marksman, the modified Hornet path is the only way to go. Honestly, it's less work to modify a Hornet case than it is to get these .17 rimfire cases expanded. Especially since the tools I made to convert .223 to .22 Lovell can be adapted. I'm about to go pull out one of my Model 101s to see if the .25 Stevens barrel from my Marksman will interchange. Bore in it is dark and rough, but it's got enough rifling left that it might do some good.

	Just a thought but the Stevens barrels were designed for lead bullets and were extremely accurate with them. I would play with some various weight lead bullets.

I would play with some various weight lead bullets. That's the plan for now. Need to find a source for a decent cast bullet under 70 grains tho before I invest in a mold. It's down to pull the bullet, trim to 1.35-40. Expand 17- 20- 22, then 25. I think if I cut a different mandrel, it might be possible to go 17-21-25 and cut out one step out. Cutting to 1.35-40" I just end up truing the mouth when done sizing.
