I have three lyman alaskan scopes on smaller singleshots; two break actions and a martini, and have a litschert varmint master attachment. Anyone used this attachment? It looks like I should cut a couple opposing slots in the front lens retainer of the alaskans in order to remove them and install the adapter. Suggestions?

The front lens of the scope, also needs to come out, before installing the booster.

I made a tool for mine, to do that.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

I made several simple tools for removing lens rings. Just some thin flat stock epoxied into a wood dowel that is wide enough to fit the retaining rings. Just slip into the notches and turn the dowel to remove the rings.

Or if you're really lazy...a piece of hack-saw blade cut with a chisel to the right width and held with vise grips.

That works on the shallow rings, but not the deeper ones. I use hacksaw blades to epoxy into the dowel on the deeper ones.

Here is a lens ring removal tool.  There are offset blade and sharp point tips as well.  If there are no notches then I used a rubber cylinder turned down to proper size.  You could turn a wood cylinder and coat with Plasti-Dip or flex seal.  I worked on cameras in a previous life.

Similar in principal (but much higher quality) to a tool I bought to unscrew the back of electric watches to change batteries.

But can the two blades be moved close enough together to fit inside a 3/4" scope tube?

Tried that once, but for some reason I don't recall clearly, it didn't work well--maybe there was too much flex in the jaws of caliper.
