Buffum Decapper?

Print Post
Several years ago at a Spring National (IIRC) I met a man named Buffum who was making a really neat decapping (only) tool, mostly it seems, for the BPCS crowd.  Does anyone know whether he is still making them and how to get in touch with him?  I've had several inquiries from folks in related disciplines for such a tool.

Any other tool we're more familiar with that it sorta looks like?

The mans name is Harold Buffum and he is now about 88 years old. Harold is from Kokomo Indiana and he is a retired machinist having retired from Chrysler Corp. I don't think he has built his de-capers for years now. I spent the evening with him at the local "Friends of The NRA" dinner last Thur. evening. His phone number is 765-453-0873.

Take a look at the Distant Thunder decappers.
They are a bit more traditional than some.
OR, I am very happy with my recently purchased
Frankford Arsenal decapper, which comes with
three adjustable "alignment" collets and will decap pretty much any boxer primed case. It even has a cup to catch the
fired primers.
Available at Midway, Zanders,Grafs.
I use mine for  223, 32-40 RH, 40-65, '06,'08, 38-55,45-70
40-72W
etc.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Interesting that the Frankford Arsenal decapper looks so much like the original Franford Arsenal decapper, which was a completely different company almost a century ago! Only difference is the original swung out to the side to put a case in place, and didn't have that nifty catch cup.

I should have posted a picture to start with... see below.  I went back and looked closely at the other side of the handle and it's stamped "H E BUFFUM" so Harold for his first name makes sense.  The one I bought is labeled for 40/65, and I planned on using it for this and 45/70 cases as well as my BPCS rifles seemed to be going that way.  Recently however I noticed it also works well for 44/40 cases that I'll be shooting with BP in my Henry for N-SSA so I can decap them immediately after a relay before dropping them in soapy water to soak.  Smiley. It looks like by pure dumb luck I got one tool that serves a wide variety of purposes.  Wink

PS. I'm using my iPad to post this, so I can't figure out how to downsize the picture.  Undecided
