My first single shot rifle. A long story............ but, the action came out of the estate of a good friend, who had introduced me to a couple of guys who would build a rifle, who did build me a rifle, that I never fired for three years, and finally shot it for the first time in a BPCR Silhouette match (Oct. 2005), became good friends with them both, learned how to run a lathe and mill from one of them (now my good friend Bob), got introduced into Schuetzen shortly after, and it's been a slippery slope since.

It's not the best looking RB, but it served it's purpose as an introductory rifle for BPCR Silhouette. And.....It got me started in single shot rifles. I guess it was my gateway rifle............ Cool

How long is the barrel?  Any caliber in that one?  Cheesy

Great looking gun Jerry! I'm a fan of Remington Rolling Block and Hepburn rifles!

Nice looking rifle JerryH. I believe the same outfit that did your case hardening did mine.

The tang is marked Kjobenhavns Toihuus 1883. The barrel is a 34", #3 1/2 Green Mountain chambered in 45-70.

I would really like to make the trip to Spokane some day Joe. It sounds like a fun time, but for now family obligations have my travels very restricted and limited.

You're right Rich. Adobe Walls Forge did the color case hardening on mine also.

I'll resurrect this old thread by saying that I also have an 1867 Danish Roller in the back of my gun safe too. Bought it a couple of years back, shot it once, and put it into the back of the safe in the "I'll get to you eventually" section.  I bought it from an old friend who said he had an old single shot rifle in some kind of a weird old .43 calibre cartridge.  Well it turned out to be this Danish Roller and he sold it to me at a price I couldn't refuse ... so I didn't!  Very good bore and chamber with a light coat of surface rust from sitting neglected for many years.
When I shot it I used some of my .45-70 Trapdoor loads with a light charge of IMR4198 and the Lee 405 hollow base bullet and although it printed well off the sights the first 3 rounds I fired went into a satisfyingly small group at 100 yards.  Of course the .45-70 cases swell a little bit at the base, but not excessively.
I'll get back around to it eventually and I'll get it out and shoot it some more ...

I may have passed my "Best Before" date, but I haven't quite reached my "Expiry" date yet ...
