Most of the powders I use are of the coarse extruded types and none of the conventional measures give me any confidence to plus or minus .1 grain.
Before the current crop of electronic powder dispensers were born the old AMT company designed an auto trickle system that dumped the powder into an Ohaus beam scale.
Because I shoot a lot of SR4759 I bought the remnants of an AMT Autoscale and sent it to Lyman for replacement of the missing pan.
The Autoscale works great for dispensing coarse powders especially SR4759.
For large charges (50 grains and up) some people complain about the Autoscale being a little slow. Eventually I bumped into 2 more that I got for bargain prices. My brother swapped me out of one. When I need to run a large lot of ammo with large powder charges I set up both scales for the same load. Then I dump one charge while the other trickler is running.
Because these use a light detecting photo diode to switch off the tricklers getting SR4759 to the tenth of a grain is easy. The beam is made by Ohaus and is the same beam used in the 5-10 and 10-10 RCBS scales.
AMT went out of business and Lyman took over the Autoscale for a decade or so.
AMT scales are all chocolate brown.
A few Lyman scales are chocolate brown but most are Lyman orange.
I have all 3 combinations. The only variations I have found is the power jack for the power supply. When I got my old AMT repaired Lyman sent me a one size fits all universal powder supply.
They work great for SR4759.
